BANGKOK: -- The Office of Auditor-General was wrapping up its initial investigation into the budget spending and procurement procedures in regard to Thailand’s submarine purchase deal with China on Monday.

Senior official Chalalai Suksathit said Auditor-General Pisit Leelavachiropas would officially acknowledge the findings and consider whether the investigation should be extended to cover other related issues.

A press conference would be held to let the public know the results of the probe, she said.

Ruangkrai Leekitwattana, of Pheu Thai’s legal team, petitioned the Attorney-General’s office, asking it to extend its investigation to cover the government-to-government deal made by the Royal Thai Navy. He alleged that the company involved used to deal with the army directly without passing the government-to-government procedure.

He also questioned why the long-binding budget for the deal was not disclosed, as with other weapons purchases. The deal could also have breached the charter, he alleged.
