We booked BKk-LHR via Expedia for the beginning of August.

We just got an email saying that the 5am flight on the 2nd, is changed to 19:40 on the 1st.

And to 'Please Accept'.

It's quite a disadvantage to us due to work mainly, and also having to book a hotel.... 11pm arriving, 9:50am departing the next day.

What are our options?

Has anyone had it happen to them before?

Well there was, the original time was 05:25

This was changed to 05:00 a few weeks later (late March)

It has now been changed to the evening before, I presume they won't be putting us up in a hotel free of charge!

The main inconvenience however is work, as one of us were scheduled to be online that evening.

Any experiences like this?

Before we click 'agree to the change' what options do we have?

Thanks.

The returning flight from KL-BKK has also been changed.

We had planned to get the airport link back, but with that closing at midnight we probably won't make it now that we're due to arrive at 23:20. Which means a taxi.

The changes have made it much more expensive (cancelling a work shift, paying for an airport hotel, and also then an airport taxi instead the airport link).

What options are there for us. It was all paid when we booked it in March by credit card with Expedia.

MH have changed their flight times and the best you can hope for is a complete refund from Expedia if the new times don't suit you.  Apart from that don't expect any favours.

You have to speak to a person at Expedia to see what all your options are and what would best suit you. Say you initially did not book on a certain date because the airfare was much higher, due to the schedule change being imposed on you by MH , they may put you on that flight. If it suits you they may push everything forward or back by a week? The options and different permations of what may be possible are too complex( and seat availability changing by the minute) to write down or for a computer program to sort out so that's why you need to speak to someone. I don't envy your position because Expedia don't employ many people. You might be on phone for a long time. The people who booked with MH direct or with decent travel agent will have a much easier experience.

If you have trouble speaking with somebody at Expedia I would talk to MH direct and ask what options you have. They may change everything for you but you will have to go back to Expedia to get them to accept the changes at their end. They may not help and insist you do everything with expedia who you booked with if you are unlucky.

If none of the options are any good you go with a full refund and book something afresh with a new airline.

If you do go with a full refund you don't have to rebook with Expedia either you can book where you like. Refunds can sometimes take 6 weeks to process though.

I get changes like this all the time. Happens especially if you book a long time in advance.

My recommendation is to always book direct with the airline. 99% of the time,  you'll get the same price and will always get better service.

As I said there is no such flight on August 2 currently scheduled.  Airlines do not fly all there authorized flights during low season.  If travel was next week then there is a 0500 flight but on August 2 it is not currently scheduled.  All you have to do is check the airline web site.

As far as I know if you are informed about changes more than 14 days before the flight you simply have the choice of accepting them or requesting a full refund. So up to you to check the current prices of other flights/airlines and make your decision accordingly.

I'm not aware that you have the right to any compensation. If you have travel insurance it may offer some sort of compensation.

As your new flight times involve a long layover at KL it may be worth asking them if they will be offering you hotel accommodation, or a discount on the same. You never know.
