liang doo poo sua

Featured Replies

How is liang doo poo sua written in Thai script?

For context:

"Minister of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS) Adul Sangsingkeo is working with his team to find ways to stop the practice of liang doo poo sua among government employees."

เลี้ยงดูปูเสื่อ

From the Sanook Dictionary:

"เลี้ยงดูปูเสื่อ ก. ต้อนรับเลี้ยงดูด้วยอาหารการกินอย่างดี."

. . . verb. to welcome and take care of someone with good food.

Thank you very much, David.

For future use, is there an online dictionary that helps convert pronunciation-guide gibberish, transliterated or transcribed Thai text into Thai script?

You can try this:

Go to http://www.thai-language.com/dict/search

Under the "Lookup" box in the upper left-hand corner, find and click on ">>More options here".

Scroll down to "Search Reverse Phonemic Transcriptions" and paste your romanized text in the box. Click enter.

With your input, the first two words are read correctly, the second two are not. Blame this on the lack of tone indications in the Romanization.

Thank you. It looks like the journalist meant to use the pronunciation guide for English speakers that uses dp and dt -- I forgot what it is called -- but wrote poo instead of bpoo and omitted the tone marks. Quite a few Thai language schools seem to use it, as it is popular with some Thaivisa members posting in this forum, without tone marks, and also thai2english.com employs it (เลี้ยงดูปูเสื่อ  líang doo bpoo sèua) but apparently not thai-language.com
