If trump decides to go hard ball against Mueller, then we'd be entering constitutional crisis territory. Bannon is pushing him to do just that. We all know trump is extremely abnormal. He's being pushed against the wall now and he always fights back. This could get very, very ugly.

I just don't see how he doesn't fire Mueller.  Once it looks like the dirt on him will be published or his kids will be indicted, he does the calculation that as bad as it would be to fire Mueller, it's worse immediately if he doesn't.

I think a constitutional crisis is baked in at this point.

Definitely possible but maybe he can be "persuaded" to make some kind of deal and resign. He and his family definitely have a lot to lose.

As Mueller has said, this is a small part of a larger investigation.  In other words, ya ain't seen nothing yet.

It's the first time since Watergate aides close to the president have been convicted of criminal charges.  And remember, Watergate started out slow.  Much more to come.

What's the big news is Papadopoulos' guilty plea.  He's going to spill the beans.  And it sends a very strong message.  Lie to the FBI and you're going to be charged.  That could lead to charges against Trump Jr., Kushner and maybe others.

The Manafort investigation went back 11 years.  Won't it be interesting when they go back 11 years into the financial dealings of Trump and his family.  It's already been proven they've been dealing with Russians for years.  Some dodgy dealings.

Stay tuned....

Papadopoulos first joined the campaign as an adviser in early March 2016. According to court documents, later that month, while traveling in Italy, he met a London-based professor who claimed to have connections to the Russian government.

Shortly thereafter, that individual introduced him to a woman who claimed to be a relative of Vladimir Putin. She met with him in London.

Papadopoulos reported back to the Trump campaign several times that he was working on building connections with Russian officials, stating at a meeting on the last day of March, attended by Trump, that he had connections that could “help arrange a meeting between then-candidate Trump and President Putin.”

White House spokesperson Sarah Huckabee Sanders dismissed Papadopoulos as a campaign “volunteer,” whose ideas were variously ignored or rebuffed.

Papadopoulos was arrested in July upon entering the country. Does anyone know why he was arrested?

George Papadopoulos, who served as a foreign policy adviser to the Trump campaign, secretly pleaded guilty three weeks ago to charges that he lied to federal agents about meetings he had with Russians linked to the Kremlin during the 2016 presidential campaign...

Papadopoulos was arrested on July 27 and pleaded guilty, and a special counsel document dated October 5 says he agreed to plead guilty. However, special counsel Robert Mueller asked the court to keep all of that secret until now because, in Mueller’s words, the “[d]efendant has indicated that he is willing to cooperate with the government in its ongoing investigation into Russian efforts to interfere in the 2016 presidential election.”

There no “Mueller-Papadopoulos-Clinton story”

There is only a Mueller-Papadopoulos-Trump campaign story because Papadopoulos worked for the Trump campaign and because Mueller is investigating the Trump campaign, not the Clinton campaign.

(THREAD) It's now almost certain Papadopoulos *wore a wire* during the last 90+ days. Here are the implications. Hope you'll read and share.

Investigators don't disclose anything about their investigation until charges are laid, so your statement is meaningless.  But all indications from Trump's connections to his personal actions and reactions suggest he is not an innocent man, unless you trust a serial liar, and it appears you do.

Remember not too long ago when Trump supporters were asking where's the evidence and concommitant indictments? Now that the indictments have started coming in,  they've changed their tune to outrage at there being indictments. Just can't make these people happy.

The indictments are for actions taken by Manafort and Gates prior to them even meeting Trump.  So again, where's the evidence Trump committed a crime involving Russia?  You have no idea what you are talking about.  You heard the word indictment and just ran with your own assumptions and no facts? You should work for CNN.

I have posted this elsewhere this evening in a relevant thread, so apologies to those who have already seen it, but something has to make you take your head out of the sand if you have any motivation whatsoever to look at things without preconceptions...

When the final history of the Trump campaign is written—if, that is, we avoid nuclear war with North Korea and there’s anyone left alive to write it—the Papadopoulos plea will likely be seen as the point of no return, the moment when a political story that had been kept alive for months with rumors and speculation, a story that the president himself had dismissed as a nothingburger as late as Monday morning, achieved an inescapable momentum.

Firing Mueller will not stop the investigation any more than firing Comey did.

These are the actions of men who are central to Trump's campaign, who had worked in the Ukraine and Russia, not including George Papadopoulos who was Trump's foreign advisor and has admitted that he has collaborated with Russia.  As usual, Trump has now smeared and belittled George as a "... low level volunteer ..., who has already proven to be a liar".

Btw, investigators don't disclose anything about their investigation until charges are laid.  But all indications from Trump's connections to his personal actions and reactions suggest he is not an innocent man, unless you trust a serial liar, and it appears you do.

If he fired Mueller and then had Rosenstein appoint Giuliani or Christie to be the special counsel, you don't think that would stop the threat to the Trump family?  Could be messy, but that doesn't mean he wouldn't do it.  There were reports that he had to be talked out of firing Mueller yesterday.

It would be interesting to see what justification he'd give for firing Mueller.  After all, Papadopoulos, a member of campaign, has admitted to liaising with Russia while working on the campaign as an international adviser.  The "nothing but a witch-hunt" excuse won't cut it anymore.

Even if it can't be proven that Trump and family knew and approved of the Russia contacts (I haven't given up hope on that), Trump's claim that he "hires the best people" will be proven to be a lie.  However I'm sure the Trumpies would have no problem with learning that their man "unknowingly" led a criminal organization colluding with a hostile foreign power in order to get elected.

Not  so, kid.. First of all it has to be invoked. And even then, if it's contested it's up to the courts to decide if it has been legitimately invoked.

"The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 1974 in U.S. v Nixon that executive privilege can only be used in limited circumstances, such as protecting national security or preserving the confidentiality of sensitive communications within the executive branch."

Yes, a lot of salivating over more nothingburgers.

The title of the thread is "Will TRUMP be impeached or resign", so the answer is still NO!!

Trump's campaign manager has been charged with serious crimes that could put him in prison for decades.  Don't you think it says something about Trump that he would put such a criminal in charge of his campaign?

We also have Papadopoulos admitting that he actively sought contacts with the Russian government while he was an advisor to the Trump campaign, and, as Trump himself said, Papadopoulous is "an excellent guy".

We now have a criminal money launderer who was in charge of the Trump campaign and a campaign advisor who was an excellent guy actively seeking collusion with Russia.  Even with nothing else (and there will be more) Trump was either approved or this or was clueless, and thus incompetent.  That is pertinent information for an impeached or resign thread.

It is simply astonishing to see how far people will go to bury their heads in the sand.

Have either of you actually read any of the THREE indictments? Have you read the very very clear cut connection to Russia? I bet you have not even looked at the charges, you are just listening to Fox talking about garbage claims concerning Uranium and any other subject they can find that ignores the 3 people indicted, and just calling "false! fake" at anything to do with Trump or his brown nosing administration. You are enabling Trump to destroy your country! Tell your grandkids that when you realise it's time to clear your conscience.

I don't think Manafort will look at the prospect of 15 years as a 'nothing burger', and as for the man with the funny Greek name, he will prove to be the nemesis (or at least the man that opened the door for Trump's nemesis).

In an interesting and highly amusing  twist yesterday, Trump called Papadopoulos a liar !! He said he had been proven to be a liar !!  How does that sit with Trump supporters? Does the irony of that not hit you in the face like a wet fish? Trump calling someone else a liar? You can't make this stuff up. It would make a good movie if all the Hollywood A-listers were not losing their jobs over ALLEGATIONS of sexual harassment and abuse - you know that stuff that everyone should be axed for but anyone making allegations about Trump doing the same is a liar.

Trump supporters are all missing the bit of DNA that gives us all moral courage and a backbone.

About Papadopoulos.... some damn liberal said this about him "PhD; George Papadopoulos, he’s an energy and oil consultant, excellent guy;"

That damn liberal being Donald Trump.

Just a technical point - Trump firing Mueller  is complicated.

Since Mueller reports to Rosenstein as Acting AT, Rosenstein has the only authority to fire Mueller. AT Sessions recused himself from the investigation and has no authority to fire either Mueller nor Rosenstein.

Trump would have to fire Rosenstein if he refuses to fire Mueller for cause, appoint a new loyal Trump Deputy AT. Such person would have to be one who has already been approved by the Senate such as Rachel Brand.  Otherwise Trump would have to nominate an outsider such as Guiliani who AFTER appointment by the Senate could then fire Mueller.

I am not a Trump supporter.  I am a truth supporter.  The indictments don't have anything to do wit Trump.  The investigation did show collusion from Hillary's camp though.  I guess you don't care about that though.  Your bias is evident, after that nothing you say is valid.
