Pick-Up Truck Rental to Move Scooter

Hi,

 

I'm trying to move from southern to central Thailand with a few bags and a scooter.  Would ideally like to rent a pick-up truck and drive up myself.

 

Budget Car Rental has Toyota Vigo trucks for rent.... but, they come with a cap on the back.

 

Does anybody know if a Honda Wave 125cc scooter would fit in the back?  I called Budget and they weren't sure.

A little away from your question but did you know you can post scooters via the normal mail. I know a couple of people who have done it.

Hi, yes that's plan B.

 

I'm going to end up driving anyway, so if I can put the scooter in the back that would be easier, better and cheaper.

 

Main problem is the only pick-up trucks that I can find for rent by national car rental companies have the cap on the back.

The picture is a bit small/blurry, but it seems to be a

"Toyota Vigo X-tra Cab 2.5 J-PS".

A two door model with a small bench in the back.

Deck inside L x W x H (mm.) 1,805x1,515x450

So width and lenght of the loading bay (deck) would be more than sufficient.

Don't rent a four door model. That will not work.

 

The height of such a scooter is not more than 1.10 meter without the mirrors.

Can you check/confirm that?

If the cap would be the same height as the cabin roof it would be critical (you would have to lay down the bike). It just checked at an older model that the height of cabin roof over the loading bay is just about 1 meter.

 

But from the picture it looks like the cap is about 0.2 m? higher.

I know such caps but they come in different types.

 

I am very optimistic that it fits.

Worse case: unmount the mirrors.

Worst case: lay down/lean to something.

Ive rented the vigo pickup from budget several times. I'm pretty sure you could get a normal scooter in the back, but may have to put it in rear wheel first

The cap they have on the Vigos you rent from budget are actually pretty nice, lots of room, lock, etc.   

 

Here's a pic I could find of the last one I picked up from budget at swampy.

 

The other I rented earlier was the same, same cap,  just silver.      It's kind of the default vehicle I rent that I know I can fit in an drive.  :)
