BANGKOK: -- The Bangkok South Criminal Court today arranged an out-of-court settlement between former GMM Grammy actor and TV host Akaranat Ariyaritwikul and a state revenue employee in a traffic case which saw the celebrity beating and forcing him to kneel down and prostrate in front of his scratched Mini Cooper car.

 

The former TV host, well-known as Nott, came to the court with his mother and lawyer, while disputed party, Kittisak Singto or Boy, a clerk at the Talingchan revenue office, was accompanied by his mother and human rights lawyer Songkan Atchariyasap.

 

Boy has sought a compensation of around 100,000 baht for medical bills which he had paid for his deformed nose after he was punched on the nose by Nott.

 

The incident happened on November 4 last year when Boy’s motorcycle scratched Nott’s Mini Cooper as he drove on a road. Nott was angry after Boy tried to flee the scene.

 

A video of the incident was posted on the internet and went viral after Nott was seen and heard to beat the motorcycle rider and forced him to kneel and prostrate in front of his scratched car.

‘Kraab my car’ star talks compensation

BANGKOK: -- Facing a slew of criminal charges, actor-TV host Akanat “Nott” Ariyaritwikul met behind closed doors on Wednesday morning with the motorcycle messenger he allegedly assaulted following a minor road accident late last year, an event caught on a damning video.

 

 

Lawyer Songkran Atchariyasap said his client, Kittisak Singto, 25, had yet to receive any compensation following the alleged altercation. He planned to seek a “six-figure” settlement. 

 

Akanat, 29, arrived at Southern Bangkok Criminal Court with his parents to discuss the compensation settlement. He acknowledged the assembled news media outside the building, but declined to make any comment.

 

Kittisak arrived with his mother and lawyer. Songkran told reporters his client’s broken nose has still not healed despite two operations. He said he would formally ask the court to list him as co-plaintiff in the criminal case.

 

Songkran noted that Kittisak was fined Bt400 for reckless driving causing property damage following the incident in November and will on June 21 learn whether Phra Nakhon public prosecutors intend to indict him on further charges, as recommended by the police.

 

Akanat and his friend and passenger that day, Wittawat Sribunditmongkol, face a series of charges:

 

•    assault causing bodily harm, punishable by between six months and 10 years in prison

•    threatening to harm a person to compel them to do something, punishable by up to three years’ jail and a Bt6,000 fine or both

 

•    illegal detention, punishable by up to three years’ prison and a Bt6,000 fine or both

 

•    humiliating or bullying someone in public, punishable by up to a month in jail and a Bt1,000 fine or both

Both men are free on bail pending a court review of the evidence, due to be presented on May 29.

 

Thousands of people have watched a video posted online that appears to show Akanat punching Kittisak in the face on a Bangkok street last November 4, allegedly demanding that he apologise for a collision that left the TV star’s Mini Cooper damaged. 

 

Kittisak claimed his motorbike had been knocked off balance by a passing taxi and he struck Akanat’s car. He said he tried to chase the taxi, but then returned to the scene and was assaulted by Akanat, who ordered him to “kraab” (show obeisance) the Mini. 

 

The words the celebrity used – “Kraab rot ku” (“Kneel and wai before my car”) became a popular satirical hashtag on Twitter.

Thereby the fundamental cause of their problem is clearly defined.

Which is more face saving a wah in respect to a car or financial bowing. Looks like Nott will find out. Resist as he may he will end up paying. Resisting is part of the bargaining posture.
