Two killed, five injured in truck crash in Trat

By The Nation

TRAT: -- A speeding pickup truck crashed into a trailer truck late Thursday night, killing two people and injuring five others in Trat province.

Police said the accident happened at 11.30 pm on the Khao Saming-Trat Road in Khao Saming district.

The pickup driver, Prapas Wichianrat, 35, died at the scene along with a front passenger, Kittisak Sangwalngern, 25.

The five injured include a two-year-old girl. One of the injured, Watcharpong Ketnok, 20, was sent to the Khao Saming Hospital.

Thongchai Jomkhamsing, 25, Thanya Jomkhamsing, 25, Ekkarin Rintho, 20 and the girl were sent to the Trat hospital.

Police said the trailer truck had just left its office nearby and driven 30 metres against the traffic to use the U-turn when the accident occurred.

The pickup was driving from Khao Saming to Trat and could not stop when the trailer truck veered across lanes to the U-turn.

The trailer truck driver, identified only as Charn, left the scene and returned to his office where he was arrested.

So the Trailer Truck drove 30m the wrong way down the road before cutting across the oncoming traffic causing a deadly crash... .

... It will be interesting to see what charges are brought on this driver for causing this vehicular manslaughter when he doesn't have significant funds to pay his way out of trouble...

However, realistically, we will never hear about this issue again as these stories never seem to be followed up on.

Look no comments could this be because every day same - same ?

Well yes up to a point, but this one is certainly up there with the saddest as regards cause, if not in numerical consequences for the innocent

They should take a long hard look at the drivers education in Europe and the strict safety regulations all the technology is there to use.

But that would need at least one person who had a modicum of intelligence

Nanny state, or the continued obscene slaughter, a difficult choice without the assistance of the aforementioned intelligence

I very doubt that would make any difference. Learning to drive to European standards would take too much effort and Thais do not do hard. Add in the Me First mindset and there is no chance at all that driving standards will improve for the foreseeable future.
