Quick Atm Question

Featured Replies

Hi,

Anyone know if i can do a bank transfer to an international destination from these new fangled ATM machines that allow it ?

Have never used it, and not in country right now ro have a look personally.

thanks

./P

I don't see how. The Bank of Thailand has always required banks to collect a certain amount of paperwork in connection with all international transfers (origin of funds etc) and I haven't heard anything about a change in policy. At least I know for sure that they were still requiring all the traditional stuff the last time I had any personal experience with sending an international wire, which was a couple of months ago.

Don't know about the ATMs but Bank of Asia's online banking thingie support SWIFT transfers.

Yes, but international transfers are regulated by the Bank of Thailand, and depending on the political climate, sometimes quite closely regulated. If you have a Thai baht account and want to buy foreign exchange using that account and then tranfer those funds out of Thailand, you'll have some explaining to do and some questions to answer. Thus has it always been and thus probably will it always be. Welcome to the Third World.

It seems to be easier with some banks than with others. If you use BOA's "Asia Cyberbanking" you can apply online and use their online thing to do the transfers. Bangkok Bank required copies of work permit, payslips and other stuff last time I did it with them. But I haven't transferred any money out of TH for a couple of years so maybe things have changed since then.

ka12345 (or anyone else who KNOWS):

What requirements does Bank of Asia have to open an account with them? They seem to have more extensive services than the local-based banks.
