as far as I see everything is hanging on

Instructions for use:

Firefox:

Tools, options, general tab, connection settings.

Select manual proxy config, and then in the HTTP proxy section put in an IP address from the above list, add the port in the next box.

Check the box marked "use this proxy server for all protocols"

Click ok

IE:

Tools, internet options, connection tab, Lan settings.

Check the box marked "use a proxy server for your LAN"

Add the IP of a server from the above post, and the port in the box next to it.

Click ok

You now have internet.

If you want email then check the settings in your email client, I'm sorry there are just far too many different programs for me to post instructions for each.

I run 2 ISP's at home (TT&T and CAT) and I'm having trouble accessing US sites with both. The problems started early this morning. When I use the ThaiVisa Speed Test I'm still getting high figures (1,700/600).

I'm only guessing, but I'm suspecting that the high number of tourists in Pattaya right now migt be overloading the Internet gateway.

Has anyone else noticed a problem today?

Try different servers from the list, I'm using the one from Turkey, and it's taking a long time to open pages, but it is working.

Let me take a wild guess how this happened:

1. Earthquake broke the cables.

2. TOT technicians thought their DNS servers were broke and kicked the (insert your favorite word here) out of them.

3. Someone fixed the cables or re-routed the traffic.

4. Nothing works now because the DNS servers are broke.

Yeh!

Don't you just hate it when something breaks and they repair something that is not broken or even related.

Banks and businesses in Taiwan, South Korea, China and Japan reported telephone and internet problems.

In Thailand, Internet access slowed to a crawl, with up to 90 per cent of e-mail and web access impossible. There was no word from CAT Telecom, the government monopoly which supplies all Internet service to Thailand.

Taiwan's largest telephone company, Chunghwa Telecom Co, said damage to an undersea cable had disrupted 98% of Taiwan's communications with Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Hong Kong.

Repairs could take three weeks, Vice-General Manager Lin Jen-hung said, but quality would improve daily.

Telecommunications companies in Hong Kong, Japan and China also reported problems.

China's biggest telecoms provider, China Telecommunications Group, said that communications cables to the US and to Europe had been damaged.

"Internet connections have been seriously affected, and phone links and dedicated business lines have also been affected to some degree," it said.

An estimated 5 million Internet users in Taiwan were unable to download e-mail and access web sites overseas Friday due to a ruptured undersea cable, local media reported.

Taiwan Internet service providers Seednet and Hinet, which is a subsidiary of state-run Chunghwa Telecom Co., were severely affected by the cable problem and flooded with phone calls from angry subscribers.

Many were unable to download e-mail from U.S.-based free account providers such as Yahoo and Hotmail. Similar Internet access problems were reported in China on Friday.

However, Seednet officials said that access to local web sites as well as to Southeast Asian ones was regular.

Hinet officials said it is believed that a fishing vessel ruptured the optic fiber cable, which runs through the Taiwan Strait and the Sea of Japan to the United States, some 300 kilometers off Shanghai, early Friday.

Chunghwa Telecom said repairs are expected to take at least two weeks, but cannot be carried out by the Taiwan side since the area where the damage occurred is not under Taiwan jurisdiction.

The cable, which is a multinational joint venture connecting countries in the region including China, Japan, and South Korea, began operating in January last year.

Chunghwa Telecom was rerouting phone calls and Internet traffic through the four other cables to the U.S. as well as satellites, but said it might be markedly more difficult to get connected.

Because they have no clue what's going on. When i called the TRUE support center earlier, they told me to reboot the computer. Of course, those are not the engineers who need to troubleshoot the real problem, but what's making me even more angry is the real problem is not caused by the cables being broken but by their inability to properly re-route the traffic and blocking most, if not all, vital ports.

I am on TT&T (xxxxxxx@indy) in Phuket, works perfectly well since they replaced some hardware here in Patong. Knowledgeable (sp?) people at the headoffice in Talang, I must say. I recommend switching from ToT.

By the way, I can contact any site in Germany without any problem, even faster than ever! I guess a lot of the I-Cafes in Phuket are closed :-)

So true, I had a telephone call again with the ToT sevice in Bkk today because I am waiting since last thursday

(6days) for a service guy here which replaces the wunderful HYUNDAI modem again. I cant hear that

MAYBE tomorrow anymore and it cost me another five phonecalls and a lot of time to learn from this customer service center in Bkk today that I should switch my modem off and on again and it will work. Its definately broken I told them and they told me MAYBE tomorrow.

Not a single word of the network problems in Taiwan, in which I personally dont belive anyway. Guess there are some, but its not the only reason why Thaiinternet works like Thai Internet works :D I also guess they give a s....t and will not work overtime to solve the problem....means 2 weeks holiday for them till they have to get up after the cable is finally fixed :D

Without cat maybe cencoring internet does not work so good anymore. Who is than protecting you ?

By mistake you might get in contact with pornographic content or even prostitutes.

An this may also happen to inocent Thai people, as such things does not exist here, they will be complete shocked.

As well there are places where they play games for money, thats also complete shocking for Thailand.

All that evil foreign things must be outside. Who can do that better than CAT?
