Bloke working on our house today - what could possibly go wrong?

Recommended Posts

He would be escorted from our property. No ifs, buts or whatever.

The primary reason, he could damage the outlet with arcing connections.

He also has the wires in the wrong holes.

Nice to see you have a water resistant cover over the outlet

I don't see it often, the "tradesmen" don't get the chance.

Some time back I actually put a plug on for one of these chaps.

A while later he had cause to return, of course the plug was gone. When asked why, "Thailand electric not same farang electric, not need". He has not returned.

EDIT In reality I don't want someone dying on my watch (the RCD ought to save them anyway), it's just the paperwork is so tedious.

It's meant for testing appliances that don't have a plug.

I used to have one of these, should have brought it with me.

Thought I would add:

BigClive.com (UK Electrical YouTuber) uses one regularly when shooting his "what can go wrong" videos, and did a video specifically on the QuickTest device on Feb 2016.

From the VIDEO DESCRIPTION section:
The Quicktest unit has been around for a long time, and is used in electrical and electronic workshops to safely connect power to electrical equipment that does not have a plug. Note that the device is only intended for people with good electrical awareness.

It has a very strict isolation system whereby lifting the lid to access the terminals completely isolates the live and neutral connections.
Connecting the test wires is done via "piano key" type connectors that grip the wires securely when released. The connectors are colour coded with the standard European flex colours with the earth/ground key being solid green as opposed to striped green and yellow.

Since I get asked about this item a lot, here are some links to the manufacturer and suppliers.
