Exclusive: Trump targets illegal immigrants who were given reprieves from deportation by Obama

Government changing direction 180 degrees over and over again is not good governance, and does not enhance the perception of reliability and well thought through decision making .

Seems Donald is just undoing everything Obama did, and seems to hope he can  erase the name from history books. Including important success stories like the school lunches  .. .. ..

probably has no better ideas how to create a legacy of his own .. ..

Aside from the moral/legal point..... is $350,000k/year/child an accurate figure?  Seems unnaturally high.

The cost of foster care is very high, but it depends on how it is calculated.   It gets very expensive when you include all the cost.   The legal cost of courts monitoring the custody, a caseworker/social worker, who must make visits, payment to the foster home, medical costs and in many cases the cost of school tuition if the child has been placed in a district in which they did not reside -- illegals aren't considered to be a legal resident of the school district.

This is not about immigrants, it is about illegal immigrants. Any sensible country will welcome a high value, high nett worth, highly qualified and skilled influx of labour. What countries don't need is people sneaking in through the desert in the dead of night dragging their 15 kids and incompatible values with them.

The admin/maintenance figures I saw were around $25k/year/child, with various state and local share percentages by state, but I could see how it would much higher if you take the entire program costs into account, then parse it for a per child average.  Anyway, just a point of interest when I saw the figure in your comment.  Thanks.///

I am not wishing to get involved in the topic, but trying to point out that there are a lot of circumstances behind people not leaving, although without a doubt most don't leave because they simply do not want to and won't leave until forced to.

Are the people that are being deported now under a previous deportation order?   Many people are ordered to be deported, but manage to some lee-way by ICE while they pursue avenues of becoming legal.

People do need to remember that deportation is a legal proceeding.   Some years back, unless you were detained for other reasons, people were given the option to leave voluntarily rather than face an order of deportation (which usually precludes re-entry to the US).

There should be stronger laws and enforce them to keep out illegals.

They should be documented and in the future any children or grandchildren should be blocked from entering the country even legally. Make the price of illegal  entry higher. If they get caught it will affect generations to come. Now they just to come and go as they please.

I feel the more you deport the less others will try.

Many years ago, when I worked in the Protective Services, the cost was around $250,000 and that was a very long time ago.

I remember from  a previous post in another thread you worked front line immigration..as stated by you. So may be you can answer a question that has bothered me for a long time. How many people would you say fly in and become illegal as opposed to come in totally illegal.

 Percentage's would be fine.

The figure that is bounced around is about 40% who enter legally and then overstay.   The range is usually about 33% to 50%.    Other than those coming through the Southern border and a small number from Canada, most of the rest have to get on a plane with a visa and then disappear into the ether that is the USA.

There are a huge number of Asians who are illegal and a good Tha friend (legal) who lives in California said a lot of people are in near panic mode.   She had no idea there were so many Thais who are in the US illegally.    This is anecdotal information only.   Quite a few have been in the US for a very long time and I assume didn't bother to adjust their status under either Regan or Clinton's amnesty programs.

Good.  Maybe they will leave of their own accord without waiting for arrest. People should be afraid when they flagrantly violate our laws.

It's difficult to argue with that especially if they have had numerous opportunities to get their status adjusted.   There not unlike a few farangs I have met in Thailand who came and just stayed, never renewing their visas, some not even renewing their passport.

Thailand ought to bust those criminal farangs, too.

We are getting off-topic, but they do when they catch them.   Again, most had the opportunity to fly out, pay the overstay, and return, but they didn't do it and now they face being deported and blacklisted.

California is golden state. Why ?

because of farms and who works at farms ? Many illegal Mexicans. Do you think Americans will work at farms for less than $10 per hour that Mexicans do.

Prices will adjust with new labor rates and that will be beginning of disaster for all Americans.

last presidents were not stupids nor they were in love with Mexicans.

if Mr Trump thinks by doing this can get a few followers, go ahead you will just make the situation tougher to Americans huge inflation.

Undocumented, Illegal, same same, doesn't matter if they have been in the US two weeks or two decades...........they broke the law and should be prosecuted, allowing them to stay is poking a sharp stick in the eye of every immigrant that came in Legally.......end of story............based on merits of their cases, they may be allowed in, once approved by the State Department and Homeland Security.

There are work related Visa's they can apply for.............it is illegal for farmers to hire illegal workers and can be fined thousands of dollars for each one..............come in legally to work, its good for everyone...............look what open borders has done for Europe, not much good is there??

actually, I'd like at the very least an experimentation period where we see if legal resident do those jobs.... assuming they won't is self defeating and only back those already on the side of the undocumented...how hard could it be, with proper announcements, to let people know those jobs are available?

It's called that primarily from the Gold Rush of 1848.  Also Poppies, sunsets and SF's Golden Gate Bridge.  No, it's not due to farms or illegal Mexican workers.  Agriculture is a big business in CA but only about 2% of overall GDP.

But yes, there's a gap between the farm workers required vs. what's available locally, and the Guest Worker Program, from this article (1 year old), doesn't sound very responsive.  The entire system needs to be overhauled, legal guest workers treated with respect as they are an important part of the work force and economy.

But it's not possible to do everything, in the right order/priority, to a moving target.  Not like an engine, you can shut it down, work on it, then put it back on line.   Obama basically gaffed it off.  Trump is all over the map now.  It's a shit sandwich.

American farms should be in full swing right now. But some farmers are running behind, waiting on work visas for planters and pickers from out of the country. The H-2A visa program is delayed for the third year in a row.

border security is not something the president of the Unites States should be concerned with, nor us.  we have some real problems, but they are not being addressed at all.

example, our major entitlement programs are not sustainable fiscally.  and nothing is being done... except blaming "the democrats", "Obama", "leakers", "showboaters".... "terrorists"...... and illegal immigrants.

these are things that may likely affect the value of the US dollah.. and not so far off.... be hedged.

When one is involved in theft, often there are two or more  equally guilty parties, the person who steals  the goods and the person who buys the stolen goods.

For years with a wink and a nob we invited these people here so that we could profit from their illegal activity.

Now we only want them and their families to pay.

How about you ?

Will you give back all the money you saved on cheap tomatoes to form a fund and assist the  repatriation of these people?

One of the people I have working in my shop in the Us is from Costa Rica

Best worker I have,

he has being here for twenty years, and has a working permit , but not permanent status. His permit is renewed every year.

His children were born here grew up here and are American citizens, but cant sponsor him until they are of age.

His Father back in Costa Rica is sick and could die.  He cant even go back home to see his father because he is afraid he might nor be able to come back.

Outrageous!!!

We prospered from his sweat, and now he cant even go see his dying father.

I repeat OUTRAGEOUS!!!

It is my understanding that less than 10% of the illegals in CA are farm workers.

Sorry but illegal immigrants undermine the economy. They do jobs for less than what the job should pay. They take more out of the system than they put in.
With use of welfare, food stamps, emergency services.
