So if they say E20 we should use E20 forever. But what when the same car is sold in countries where there is not E20 or similar ?

Not all countries get the same spec vehicle.

For instance here we get the Mazda 3 with the 14.0 compression engine that is flex fuel (E10/E20/E85/Gasahol 95) compatible  where as other countries like the USA get the 13.0 compression engine are are not flex fuel.

Well slap my bottom and call me Susan, do I feel stupid?

thanks very much for that. The old girl is currently at the BM hospital for a rather unusual A/C blower investigation ( and repair) and an annoying minuscule water leak from the cooling system.

bowled up to the engineers yesterday only to find the rocker cover off (?) and the seal all crumbled up in the cam casing.

When she she comes back I will try your cure though I believe that only Plod will benefit from enhanced performance.

Sorry for going off off topic but would the higher octane level not have a tendency to burn at a higher temp? And would that not potentially cause additional wear to my baby's heart?

No. There is no difference between 91 and 95 in terms of burn temperature. The big differences come when you compare gasoline vs LPG vs CNG, CNG being the highest and not good for valve seats unless specifically engineered to handle it.

The big problem in Thailand is adulteration by suppliers or operators trying to make a quick baht. I have it on good authority one village near Lamphun took this approach to ridiculous extremes by adding water to their storage tank. So it's best to stick to one brand and a highway service station with high turnover. The little bit extra you get from 95 octane doesn't hurt either.

I've had cars that were designed (advertised anyway) to run on lower octane fuel that pinged quite a bit until I ran higher octane in them.  Probably carbon fouling or timing/computer issues, or maybe that pinging was the sound of saving me money by running almost too lean.  But it drove me crazy.

Down to the lead content - or lack, thereof. Not so relevant nowadays.

The higher the octane the better.

I only use 95. Depending on the engine, anything lower will detonate the engine.

higher octane does no harm. Only lower octane causes engine wear and detonation.

91 is the octane rating. E20 means 20% ethanol. 95 is 95 octane.

No worries

95 is also gasohol 10% same as 91.

You are right about the octane rating.

I use 91 gasohol in a 27 year old car and have no problems.

Has a carburettor etc.

You should refill  with 95 every 1000kms it helps clean your injectors , no harm by putting in 95 by mistake , he has accullary done you a favour. You will also note better mileage per litre using 95 . Think of it this way the 95 is Jonny Walker Blue and the E10 is see zip Thai whiskey , you car will still run but you wake up a lot better on the JW Blue.

I do that with my car, and I thought I was imagining the better mileage, years ago an engineering mechanic said the same to me as what you have said, thanks for confirming it, well put the "Jonny Walker" words.

No sold at many stations I get mine in PTT or Caltex, will never use gasahol

You are using gasohol as that is the only gas sold in all of Thailand.

That includes PTT, Caltex, Shell and more.

If the pump attendant told you that he sells gas with no alcohol content he is or lying or humoring you.

A Thai calls all gas benzene.

95 and 91 have both an alcohol content of 10% and is widely sold.

E20 = 20% alcohol content and easy to find.

E85 = at the moment difficult to find as most pumps are located in Bangkok.

The PTT I go to most certainly has Gasahol 95 and Benzine 95.

Benzine 95 is listed on the PTT website as Blue Gasoline 95.

E85 is easily found here in Pattaya.

Hi guys, wow you guys certainly know your stuff but sadly to an old bugger like me of limited uptake I am getting a little confused......

could one one of you guys pls clarify for me

i 99% of the time fill up at PTT.

on sale is;

E20, the green coloured stuff 91 and red coloured stuff 95

i usually fill up with the green 91 (Ben tan gao Nung carp) and all is well but now I believe I should consider dropping a tank of the red stuff ( Ben tan gau hah carp) from time to time coz it will do the old girl a world of good.

alternatively if I am feeling ultra flash fill up all the time with the red stuff ( Ben tan gau hah carp) I should experience inmproved acceleration, better MPG  without damaging the engine.

am I right here?

cheers

No benzine is sold via a yellow labled pump, the gasahol crap is a blue or orange pump, there is a massive difference.

Again, there exist in Thailand no, as you call it, benzine.

All gasoline sold here is gasohol, E10,20,85.

Few years allready.

I use "gasohol crap 91", after the 95 benzene got fased, out in a 27 year old car which still has a carburetor.

No problems.

Again, you are wrong. It was the 91 Benzine that was phased out. 95 benzine is still available in some stations.

See EPPO web page for types and prices of fuel sold in Thailand

(95 Benzine is 'ULG 95 RON'

Well, seems I am wrong then.

My apologies to everyone.

Anyway, where I live there are 2 PTT gas pump station and there was a, now defunct, Caltex pump.

None of them did or do or have this 95 benzine.

Anyway, thank you for setting me straight. :wai:

Eppo link above says Gasohol 91-E10/Gasohol 95 - E10

I wonder why they write แก๊สโซฮอล ออกเทน 95 (Gasohol 95-E20)

So can I know what is the difference between E20 and 95 ?
