BANGKOK: -- The commissioner of the Provincial Police Region 8, Pol Lt-Gen Thesa Sirivato, was today transferred to inactive position at the Bangkok-based Operation Centre of the Royal Thai Police for alleged bribery.

The transfer was ordered by Royal Thai Police commissioner Pol Gen Chaktip Chaijinda after complaint by a former member of the National Reform Assembly, Withaya Kaewparadi, that the commissioner demanded bribes from police wanting to be promoted to higher positions.

Withaya was also former activist of the defunct People’s Democratic Reform Committee.

If proved guilty, why not just sack the corrupt fellow? why do they always cover up their dishonest boys in "inactive" posts?

With time, all the "inactive" positions will be filled up!!...Where will they put them at that point? :welcomeani:

who is corrupt? he who takes or he who pays? :cheesy:

what if one does not pay the local policeman?

and why pay the local policeman?

why not film the scene of the cops taking the bribe and send the film to the PM's anti-corruption office in Bangkok? Hear it does work out also for the common people...

Something does not add up here. Police are not removed for bribery. Not by this administration, and not in this country. It just does not happen. Either he pissed someone off, the government is making a show of this to gain face, or something else is up. But, removed for bribery? You have got to be kidding. Nobody is removed for bribery under Little P. It just does not happen.

Of course it's no secret that in Thailand all of the police and most government officers buy their promotions with Phuket and Pattaya costing most but as these guys are inactive anyway is an inactive post a promotion?

What Thai police offers taking bribes ? never there must be some misunderstanding here.  Good to see he is going to the most populated office in Thailand,  "the office of inactive posts".  Of course until it is all forgotten about  or even higher bribes are paid, so he gets moved to a new division to start over again.

well it just goes with the Surat Thani customs officials getting their monthly "payments" as well but I doubt we will hear about that as no one is game enough to dob them in, happens in every city in the country

i suspect it has to do with the loans they take to buy the jobs and promotions. if they were fired and had to default on the loans they would become more expensive for all of them.

from a western perspective the whose system runs on corruption and bribery. if one was sacked they could implicate everyone else and there would be no one left to keep us safe.

Agreed. Basically it's a Royal Thai Police 'pyramid' scheme' where bribes are filtered from the bottom of the pile to the top.

It would have been worth to add that this Region 8 is Surat Thani.

Taking bribes for fast promotion: one has been caught.

A drop in the ocean.

Is the corruption museum still open?
