Obtaining a new passport while home, old visa still valid?

Recommended Posts

Although my current passport is still a couple years from expiration, I added pages before the U.S. stopped offering this service. I travel a lot and my passport often causes frustration for immigration officials.

Would it be smart to get a new one while visiting here in the U.S.? I' m currently on a multi non O from Savannakhet.

Would the visa still be valid despite my old passport being cancelled?

Is the newest entry stamp placed in the new passport?

I realize my visa would still be in the old passport, but if new entry stamps were placed in the new one it might make things less annoying for immigration officials (Thai or otherwise).

Thoughts?

Your visa will remain valid in your old passport until it expires. You will show both passports on entry to the country to show the visa in your old passport and immigration will stamp you into the country in the new one.

Be sure you request a 52 page passport when you apply for the new one.

You might find it easier and less costly to get the new passport here. It takes about 6 weeks to get one in the states unless you pay $60 for expedited service. Here you will pay $110 and have your passport in less than 2 weeks.
