Changes to Health Insurance Act see little disagreement from public

BANGKOK, 19 June 2017 (NNT) – The head of the committee revamping the nation’s Health Insurance Act has assured that all amendments to the bill are to ensure greater benefit to the public and will not impact any privileges citizens are currently receiving.

Chairman of the committee revamping the National Health Insurance Act Warakorn Samkoses has led a press conference alongside Deputy Secretary-General of the National Health Insurance Office Dr Prajakwich Lepnak, Head Inspector of the Ministry of Public Health Dr Marut Jirasetsiri and Secretary-General of the National Health Commission Dr Poldech Pinprateep. The event was to conclude 4 major forums held on changes to the national health insurance bill that took place in Songkla, Chiang Mai, Khon Kaen and Bangkok.

The press conference pointed that through all 4 forums only a small portion of attendants expressed any disagreement with the proposed revisions to the act, which have been public knowledge for 3 months now.

Warakorn assured that all the revisions are to better serve the public with all privileges afforded by the act still intact. He pointed a key difference was that the act requires those with high income to contribute more to public health, benefitting those of low income.

All opinions from the forums are to be sent to the chairman of the National Health Insurance Act commission this June 30 to be publicized for wider public feedback.

The carefully selected attendees at these forums were likely to have been charmed by officials and then later allowed to feast on a seafood buffet. No complaints from them. The few who did express disagreement were probably those at the end of the buffet queue and missed out on the prawn platters.

Everyone else will find out the details the hard way.

There, I have had my cynicism fix for the day.

It doesn't really matter since they're not allowed to voice their opinions either way.
