Wonder if giving Thais 51% of the shares in these new startup firms are part of the deal?

It means 4 Thais will have own 51% of  and use your laptop all at the same time while you supervise.

You go with a branch to Thailand and keep it running at a 'loss' by sending royalties to the mother company abroad.

No tax.

I am not an expert, but I do have a BS in engineering and a MS in Math and many years of experience, including teaching technical subjects.  I would love to live and teach in Thailand. But they make visas and work permits so difficult, I gave up on it.  I am about to retire and I still would love to volunteer part time, or certainly teach part time.  It would keep me from being bored and I wouldn't mind making a little money.  But there is no way on a retirement visa for me to do that, and there are few ways to teach part time and get the proper work permit and visa.  So neither me nor Thailand get to cooperate and help each other out.
