Sounds Of Thai

Featured Replies

can anyone please point me to a good chart and/or audio of Thai sounds (ie. pronunciation) please??

japanese for example has a set pronounciation/alphabet .. a,i,u,e,o .. ka,ki,ku,ke,ko .. sa,shi,su,se,so .. ETC .. iknow japanese doesn't have the extra difficulty of "tones"

but is there any reference you can point me too in learning thai "sounds/alphabet"

1 year before arriving thailand :D

i can relate to japanese, cantonese, indonesian and basic mandarin/taiwanese language study if that helps..

thanks for your help!

Hi Kotengu,

Welcome to the forum! :D My advice is to first check the pinned topic "Thai language resources" at the top of this Thai language forum. There are several good links there.

Apart from Thaivisa's own language forum, the following are also good, and free:

www.thai-language.com (dictionary, forum, some words are hot linked to sound files of a native speaker pronouncing them)

www.learningthai.com (lots of translations of Thai songs, active forum useful for picking up everyday phrases, many articles and interactive learning aids)

Also check out the Wikipedia pages on the Thai alphabet ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thai_alphabet ) and the Thai language ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thai_language ).

The most accurate and extensive online Thai-English-Thai dictionary is www.thai2english.com . It's a brilliant site that also allows you to paste in entire Thai texts and use mouse-over to get the meaning of each word.

...and be sure to participate regularly with your questions here at the :o Thai Language forum, of course. :D

:D

On ThaiVisa store you can find "SpokenThai" software which includes 11,000 audios and a big learning book.

ThaiVisa Store here
