AirAsia has made its inaugural Chiang Mai-Ubon Ratchathani flight and offers a promotional fare of up to 50 per cent off available for booking today (June 24) and tomorrow (June 25) at www.Airasia.com for travel anytime through November.

The connection was launched as part of the airline’s effort to support the nation’s policy of stimulating regional economies and tourism.

It presents the opportunity for Chiang Mai residents to easily travel to the Northeast while also letting the people of Ubon Ratchathani head north on a whim.

Ubon Ratchathani is home to distinct cultural traditions, such as its Buddhist Lent Candle Processions, this year taking place from July 8 to 10.

Visitors to the province can also head to Pha Chanadai to watch the sunrise, visit Pha Taem and Sampan Bok or pass through the Chong Mek border crossing into Pakse, Laos.

Chiang Mai meanwhile is popular for natural splendours and the famous Doi Suthep and Doi Inthanon.

To mark the inaugural flights, AirAsia and both Chiang Mai and Ubon Ratchathani’s airports organised welcoming ceremonies with Tourism Authority of Thailand governor Yuthasak Supasorn and Thai AirAsia director of ground operations Witchunee Kantapeng taking part.
