PHUKET: -- The Phuket governor has announced plans to renovate and re-brand the ‘Phuket Gateway’ as a tourist landmark by converting it into a shopping outlet selling Phuket-based products.

Governor Norraphat Plodthong yesterday held a meeting with relevant officers to discuss the plans.

The Phuket Gateway was built by the OrBorJor in 2006 as a ‘tourist center’ featuring a meeting room, sales room and service center. The Gateway also featured 29 pillars depicting Phuket history, art, culture and way of life.

There is absolutly nothing to see. Shopping outlet in the sticks omg.

Use it as a driving/testing course for the LTO for north Phuket.

Compulsory stop on the Chinese James Bond Island tours. There's method in what may seem to be madness.

I guess they just do not want to see the place fall into total ruin.  Well it may go that way anyway

especially if it is alone in the country side with nothing to see or do in the area.

Yes, but only on the way back to Phuket, Just too much diversion for anyone leaving Phuket.

I remember we visited this place just after it opened. We were the only car in the large car park. After looking at the pictures/info on each of the pillars then onto the small building complex. The toilets were fancy and clean. The eatery was small and very limited. Just drinks from the display fridge. The main hall offered a video presentation of Phuket. The manager was delighted to see us, guess he was lonely.

Whoosh,,,,,,,,,,,,  The sound of more money being flushed down the toilet and lining some pockets.
