Thai-Chinese railway project spurs long term professional collaboration

 

 

BANGKOK, 30 June 2017 (NNT) – A meeting between Thailand’s Engineers Council, relevant agencies and representatives from China on cooperation for the Thai-Chinese railway project has concluded with suggestions for a professional council level cooperation to be struck to ensure long term collaboration between Thai and Chinese engineers. 

Engineers Council chairman Kamol Takkabutr disclosed after a meeting with Chinese representatives, State Railway of Thailand and the Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning, that all sides agreed Chinese architects working on the railway project in Thailand should be trained and tested in 3 areas; architectural engineering, technology and collaboration. 

Plans for the training are already 90 percent complete and a timeframe has been submitted to China. The country’s architects will required to receive 3 days of training in each field and spend 1 day testing. 

The Architects Council meanwhile, recommended training on 2 topics; Thai architectural regulations and practices and architecture according to Thailand’s customs and geographical attributes. It asked that those who receive training clear at least 60 percent on tests or be required to retake the exam. 

Both councils have suggested an agreement be struck to ensure long term cooperation between professionals of the two nations. 

A meeting is to take place this July 4-8 in Beijing, China to discuss the details of the testing.

It is of some relief that the Chinese engineers are to be trained and tested by Thai experts in architectural engineering, technology and most important of all, "collaboration". It goes without saying they have already collaborated and "agreed" upon the training and examination "fees". I have a feeling these "fees" will be hefty.

Thailand, which has never built anything more than an extremely slow speed cross country train (average speed about 70km/hr) is going to train the Chinese engineers on how to build a high speed cross country train (claimed speeds up to 250km/hr) . Should be interesting.

Just like the auto industry.  Thailand will build their own trains just like they build their own cars, trucks, buses and motorbikes . 

 

Thais need to become more self sustaining.  They should build their own stuff instead of building other people's stuff.

What will be the daily rate of pay for the lowest skilled jobs when building this railway?

IIRC recent SRT investments in new rolling-stock have involved coaches made in China, and the ARL & BTS were also made overseas, but I did once see coach-repainting/refitting going on down at Ban Plu Ta Luang ?

 

I doubt that it would be worth building a new rolling-stock-construction industry from scratch, just for one small country.

So  why  does  the  "other  people" not  build  their  own stuff? And   what  stuff? Has  the  wheel  been re-invented?
