Mr H I think it has nothing to do with being anti rascist, I grew up in an industrial town which was about 98% white and my parents never talked about race so we grew up not thinking about it so when I saw someone of a different race I just thought it was interesting. Now I hate racism but when I was young I didn't think about it as most children don't unless an adult puts it into your head. It's a bit late and i was going to the so the drop books not bombs route but I've had a few beers so will respond better with a clear head tomorrow. Popular Post Odysseus123
Good morning gentlemen, I am going out today to see an elderly German gentleman who has not been very well of late. Over the last year he has stuck by me thru thick and thin and even though, due to my lack of mobility,it has been very difficult to get me out he has always tried to do so on a weekly or fortnightly basis. We have a meal and one or two beers and swap yarns together. His BiL story is priceless..all about fake painted cows... He jokes.."You'll be back.." ....and I respond..."I'm not a "lifer"-I'm a mere conscript (draftee) over here...." We shall see as nothing is fixed in stone.
Popular Post Odysseus123
Here is my friend's priceless Brother-in-Law story and it really should be recorded in one of the books that dear old Dark Lord is beseeching us to write.. Upon retirement and being comparatively new to things Thai, my German friend was inveigled into making an investment in a herd of cows out in the boonies. He would buy them and the BiL and family would look after them and fatten 'em up. After about 18 months (and many, many bills for fodder, vet services etc)he and his wife go off to inspect the herd which-he is continually assured-is doing very nicely, thank you very much. As they drive up to the farm my friend notices a large herd grazing nearby but there is something very wrong...they look strange..kinda otherworldly... Grabbing the BiL by the throat he gets the story. His (brown) herd had been sold many moons ago and,in a panic, the BiL had borrowed the neighbours herd (white) and painted them brown. Unfortunately, it had rained heavily overnight...... Edited July 16, 2017 by Odysseus123
Popular Post Odysseus123
Here is a good Sister-in-Law story told to me by an Aussie.. After coming here with his lovely Thai bride he proceeds to build a fine house and develope a farm.. In the midst of all this activity his wife suddenly receives a phone call-her sister has been kidnapped and is being held for ransom!Panic..alarm and consternation! Now this Aussie chap is no fool so he calls a meeting between the plod and the local mafia who have done the dirty deed. Yes, indeed, state the local boys.we have kidnapped her because she owes us 4 million in gambling debts-you pay or she will die! Hmmm..says the Aussie..you have only one choice.you rogues,as I have no intention of paying 1 satang of that money.. The sister-in-law turns up the following day looking very sheepish.. Hi Ody my friend, You still wonder why I want to put a collection of these highly amusing yet seriously frightening anecdotes together? BTW you owe me half an American breakfast because on reading those two stories (especially the cow saga) I nearly choked and coughed up my food all over the remanents of my ABF! The serving girl had to bring me a glass of water before I could stop choking. Bloody hell man you could not make up a story like that. Damned fine raconteur old chum! I hope you are feeling chipper this morning, my emotional scale is heading perfectly in the right direction much thanks to you, Rhodie, Hippy dude, Trans, wise Owl, Cranky Colin, Andrew, Georgio and the team. Pretty sure on arrival "chez ma soeur" That I will get a large dose of no nonsense, straight talking "guidance" and head straightening. There is hope I could become normal once more! Got your flights fixed? Mine are on Friday morning via Qatar airlines stopping in AUH for a couple of hours but damn they were not cheap! From "the one" and her daughter I am getting all sorts of texts. Her daughter owned up to being the owner of the very revealing underwear which, if it does not sound too creepy ( she is 31, good looking, fine figure and no blood relation ) makes me think of her in a very different light. No apology from "the one" though until I mentioned it to the daughter. I need to look into Bi, Tri or Quad Polar and see if that is what is fuelling the stream of texts that alternate between not very nice things and declarations of undying love. Obviously pulled out all the stops to try and find me as my chum who has been harbouring me of late was stopped in the street by a katoi friend of "the one" and quizzed on if I was staying there. Being a canny guy he denied any knowledge. Told her I could never return to Khorat as my reputation and face has obviously been destroyed by the false accusations she has laid at my door and obviously told all who would listen about. Pretty sure she got a lot of likes on Farcebook as the indig females love nothing more than a good old emotional drama containing infidelity and violence as well as the less pleasant desire to see another of their kind get f'd over royally. I can pretty much imagine the clamour to tell "the one" what a nasty piece of dog excement I am and how she is so much better without me, which I am again sure she took as true, right up to the point when the bills came in......... I have been given given the chance to re purchase my BMW which I believe to be a very kind offer. After all I bought the f'ing thing cash in the first place. Where does this all come from? I could of course use the money I was in any case intending to send her monthly as payment but that is a tad immoral. Popular Post totally thaied up
I see that that TDL is moving forward. Okay, minus the BMW and the fact 'the one that must be obeyed' is offering the sale of a very nice car, well, just is what they see is normal when we almost see the act as almost criminal. This will develop into a match of fencing; you get cut to pieces slowly over months or just until the next bill comes in. I know the feeling... put the fencing mask and sword away until the next bill comes around but be prepared to be armed at moments notice. 17 years is not going away overnight. You will be okay. A good UK Pint and just a different environment will do you wonders, but you will be back again in Asia one day. The 'one that must be obeyed' will lose her power over you, and in time, happiness will come. Other people and other women always do. Thai women know how to pull the heart strings well, and at the moment, she will be tap dancing on them as I think after four days away, she will now most likely have cooled down and seen how serious this is. TDL is going to find like what was done to me for months on end after the break; the poverty card and the 'I luv you more than ever' card will get played out over and over again. When that does not work out, suddenly on the streets you will have people you never knew before walk up to you and treat you like shit or just question where you are. I even got rejected from my local hairdresser for a haircut being 'the big bad Facebook Boogie Man.' My ex-has a network of around 1,500 friends in town; I could not move. The Village Grapevine as you said will be going off over this all, and the pressure will be on to produce a Facebook drama that makes a Korean Soap look grim. I am happy to see you progressing. Just keep processing; harder days are to come for certain. You are not going to wipe out 17 years of marriage in just 17 minutes. Be more like a process of a few years. I think going home to the UK is a grand idea. I think you will find more clarity in England and find your answers. Don't look back, look forward; at this moment, the texts or messages from your wife is just to be treated as white noise until you get yourself straightened out. Best of luck

Popular Post Odysseus123
Dark Lord, I am not coming back.I can tell as many funny stories as I like (I love 'em) but whatever the outcome of the medical interventions are-I simply decided today, after saying goodbye to my old friend, that it is too "risky" and that "Here is the grave of the fool who tried to hustle the East" is most pertinent. Sure, Australian suburbia may not be the most exciting of places but the allure of dusky oriental maidens (fully equipped with platoons of bludging, semi psychotic relatives) is not for me. I am going to take up painting in water colours instead.

It sounds like it is the right move. I have nothing to go back to in Australia now, so it looks like I will be burnt at the stake here. Could be worse. I have spent most the evening with my wife and BIL teaching him English. Today we had to get a new toilet dug for a tank and the workers I had to do the job turned up drunk as lords and I pissed them off right quick. The tank needed to be put into the dirt today as more work is getting done tomorrow and it cannot wait. So my BIL spent 10 hours on a shovel and got the job done. He certainly is not lazy. At the moment he is washing Mum who is too sick to move. So for me, it has lucked out all good with this family. All the rest of the extended family are dead apart from Dad, Mum and the brother. Dad and Mum are very old and have not much time left here. I will help them as much as I can because the time I have been with them, they have not asked for a thing. Not to worry, the neighbours around me are all budding psychotic types of characters, so some things do never change. One of our workers had a heart attack a while back, and his Mai Noi showed up first on the scene. The main wife then arrived, and they almost killed each other in the back of the Ambulance. He had spent his lunch time meeting that day with his Mia Noi, and it got very heated. Enjoy Australia; suburbia is not a word I have heard in a long time, and it has bought me yearnings for a good Aussie Meat Pie.

( and there is me, Captain Critical when it comes to people who have to use farcebook to make friends ) I would prefer it though if you fight any sudden desires you my ge to start sending us photos of your dinner........... All the best old chum TDL TDL, I have never been much of a facebook/line fan and generally stick to emails...so...20th century! Reading your posts about your wife unleashing FB/Line campaigns against you only reinforces my desire for my own-and other people's-privacy even tho' that is kinda hard to get in a society of incessant chatterers. My wife waged a similar campaign against me-hence my falling out with her psuedo HiSo friends. They were perfectly happy to see me lose "Face" in public even tho' they became perfect monsters when placed in a similar position themselves. "There is one rule for me,my family and friends-and there is quite another rule for you farang". So,today is the day that I shut down, focus on the objective and begin to filter out all that noise. Have a very pleasant journey home. Ody.
Popular Post rhodie
And so two journeys begin. Glad to see the bookings are made for the next chapter @The Dark Lord and @Odysseus123. Hope both you guys are handling the pressure well. Not easy to leave it all behind, but a change is as good as any holiday so on yer bikes! And while this thread will continue to be a meeting place and venting voice, hopefully it will also continue to be updated so we can all follow and participate in the adventures going forward. Thanks @Rc2702 for starting such an interesting discussion.

Yes !!What started as an innocent rant against a family member has turned into a genuine series of stories of anguish and pain suffered at the hands of our " beloveds ".It has turned into the DL and Ody show !!A real life reality show unfolding before our very eyes [emoji102]. As I said earlier I have been there done that ! ( to a certain extent ) but I am an avid viewer and wish both our protagonists ( and others suffering ) a happy ending to their pain. One of the best threads I've read on TV full of genuine people prepared to open their hearts and relive their fight to regain normality . Or as the great Robert Plant once said " this is a story of hope ". Best wishes to DL and Ody and of course the others who are silently suffering or rapidly following in their footsteps !!

Christ Andrew old chum, here I was eating my breakfast and on reading your lovely message of hope (quote from Robert Plant? Awesome! ) I felt myself welling up like some sort of weak willed pussy. Huge loss of face........... ( frankly with my face, that's not too much of a disaster, I might be able to replace it with something better looking!) Jeez you guys are and continue to be a huge source of hope, help and often happiness. May your God bless you all. Now whilst i am I am going in exile it will only be a short exile as I already have the return flights booked for latter half of August. I think that is going to be the next hardest point, starting afresh without the optimism and energy of "youth" that I brought with me the first time. Seriously depleted cash reserves may also play a significant part as well. No matter what happens in the coming days, weeks and months, I hope to be able to repay all this lovely and selfless support by posting the steps and progress of recovery. If in doing so, I help one person or even just amuse a few, I want to prove to myself and the world that life does not and cannot stop when it goes pear shape with the one you planned on spending the rest of your life with. We are bigger and and better than that. Now returning to the reality show comment, could it be named "Help I married an Issan girl, get me out of here!" With spinoffs labelled, "Help I am a newbie and didn't believe TVF then married an Issan girl......out of here." or "Help, she was different.........out of here" the possibilities are virtually endless. last point this morning, I finished all my breakfast today as our great chum Ody, didn't supply us with his fabulous mirth inducing anecdotes. Thanks Ody and safe travel old chum. Edited July 18, 2017 by The Dark Lord

It has been a huge help to me as I have tried to figure out what to do. Part of my problem was the refusal of the Thai doctor (a lovely person) to actually sign off on me on the quite reasonable grounds that I might not arrive alive in Sydney. However,I clawed back some of my physical health and she did agree and I have been getting slowly prepared ever since. The excellent support offered on this topic shows that men can do it-be supportive-and just not let each other hang out to dry which you do see on other topics on TV. The elderly German gentleman had tears in his eyes yesterday as I painfully rose to my feet, proffered a farewell handshake and said "Auf weidersehen, old pal."
Popular Post Andrew Dwyer
I have to correct my misquote, although I do like my version better ( it's more apt for our situation ).
Popular Post GarryP
Best wishes to DL and Ody. Hope everything turns out well for you and others going through similar trials. It will be great to get the world off your back and be your own person once again. Sometimes you have just got to think of number one first.
