CityNews – Chiang mai’s Songtaews and GrabTaxi are to collaborate this month through a trial period that would see songtaews or red trucks join forces with the Grab Application within their app, under authority of the Chiang Mai Land Transport Office.

The Chiang Mai Provincial Land Transport Office, along with the Faculty of Engineering CMU and Grab, have collaborated with the Nakhorn Lanna Cooperative that manages the red trucks in the city.

This trial period will see a new App called CM TAXI be released, developed by the Faculty of Engineering Chiang Mai University Poon Thiengburanathum, PhD and Asst Prof Anucha Promwungkwa, PhD and sponsored by Ministry of Energy. The application works similarly like Grab Taxi providing 2 services, share taxi at 30 baht per person and individual ride options. Taxi can be hailed through the app or by calling drivers directly.

The CM TAXI app offers 30 baht per person for shared rides.

From the quoted story regarding Grab RedTruck:

prices at 60 baht for the first 2km for three people, with an extra 10 baht per person in addition to that. The price will be capped at 200 baht for services within the second ring road.

Yet Uber's rate for an air conditioned car is 20 baht flag fall and then 2.50 baht/km.
