In order the secure as much as possible my stay (with setv only), i was thinking of having a new french passport issued here in Bkk (i am binational), in the top of what i mentionned above.

Do you think that could do the trick, in case i would get the infamous red stamp from the embassy (" has travelled too many times...") or if my visa would get denied, or on the contrary that would awake suspicion  (bcz issued in bkk just before my exit of the country) from the IO?

I must admit that this uncomfortable position makes me worry a lot, as i came here with an important goal: spend 6 months with my gf, in order to get to know her better before serious future commitments in Europe. So a denied entry would seriously mess an important project in my life.

The 2nd passport would double the time you could obtain SETVs at nearby consulates - and they would not add the "red stamp" based on SETVs in another passport.  Even a new passport from the same country allows a "fresh start" to obtaining new SETVs, as their own personnel will advise.

Yes, the IO at the entry-point will likely connect your passports but, for all they know, you lost a passport and replaced it.  That, in and of itself, does not imply wrongdoing.  I would not, however, lie if asked about entries on the other passport.  He/She may very well be looking at both of your passport's photos on their screen at that moment.  But if entering at friendly land-border checkpoints, and possessing the required 20K Baht worth of cash, you should not have a problem entering, based on current policies at those checkpoints.

I am thankful I was able to spend years here as a tourist (retired under 50) to get to know my now-wife before getting married.  I wish you the best of luck, in this respect.

I think you're worrying far more than necessary - your main risk may be of getting shoehorned into marriage before you're sure about it!

Many people remain here with much more extensive tourist visa history than you have, no serious problems entering the country. When people are denied entry it's generally on a technicality, as with the recent problems of not having the 20000 baht to hand, or on arousing serious suspicion of working. You mention you have a decent income, so if you keep copies of ATM slips etc and can prove you're supporting yourself with overseas income, this should be accepted by any immigration officer if they were ever to ask. Follow the general forum advice and pick one of the friendly regional consulates for the next SETV - there are many, and while problems tend to arise if too many back to back visas are sought from the same embassy, this is easily avoided by using a new one.

hi guys,

i'll finally get my next SEtV in Hong Kong. I read that one of their requirements was a ticket ouf of the country.

My question is: what date is that ticket supposed to be booked for ? The term of the setv, ie 60 days, or can it be the term of the extention of the setv, ie 90 days after entry (which could mean that i could use that ticket (for real) for my next visa run) ?

Cheers

When I have applied in Hong Kong (as a UK passport holder) I have not been asked for an onward ticket out of Thailand when applying for an SETV. Someone else confirmed they also were not asked about a month ago. Of course, that is no guarantee that your experience will be the same, but you might want to wait until they ask for an onward flight reservation before making one.

I was the one that confirmed yes.

Got a friend already there, will apply soon, so I will have another update in a day or two.

The standard procedure when a document required by a consulate cannot be supplied is to submit a letter addressed to the consul explaining the reason for it. In your case, you could write that subject to receipt of the visa for which you are applying you plan to fly to Thailand on <date>, that you have not yet decided on the  date of departure from Thailand but assure His Excellency that you will definitely leave the Kingdom prior to the expiration of your permission to stay.

Finally everything went fine. Didn't even get a single question when i arrived in Don Muang yesterday at around 10.30 PM. No fingerprint or picture either. I didn't take more than 1 minute.

My update on getting a SETV in Hong Kong at the end of this thread.
