Donald Trump Jr. hires lawyer for Russia probes

Oh my gosh, it is Obama's fault after all. How dare his administration let someone like that conniving Russian lawyer ever get near an innocent pure young man like Don Jr. I think the current administration should ban all lawyers (and other business professionals) from Russia so they can't come into the USA. They need to expand the current ban to include such conniving Russians from ever coming into the USA to influence innocent Americans again! You just can't trust those tricky Russians, well except Putin who the POTUS vouches for.

Trump tries to blame his son's meeting with a Russian lawyer on Obama's Justice Department

Trump, basically: It’s Obama’s fault that Russian lawyer took advantage of ‘young man’ Donald Trump Jr.

All Roads Now Lead to Kushner

"Now it turns out that what was fake wasn’t the news but the Trump denials, that the truly scandalous emails were in the Trumps’ own servers and that the person who may have committed a felony is actually Donald J. Trump Jr."

"That would be more compelling if the Trumps hadn’t previously denied at least 20 times that such a meeting had ever taken place."

"Yet the day after Trump Jr. received the first email and presumably had his phone conversation about the supposedly incriminating material, his father promised to give “a major speech” in which “we’re going to be discussing all of the things that have taken place with the Clintons.”

Trump's lawyers knew about Trump Jr. emails weeks ago: report

"President Trump’s outside legal team representing him in the ongoing Russia probe knew about the email chain surrounding a meeting between Donald Trump Jr. and a Russian lawyer more than three weeks ago, according to a new report."

"Trump said in an interview Wednesday with Reuters that he only found out recently about his son’s meeting with the Russian lawyer last summer who was presented as having compromising information on campaign rival Hillary Clinton."

"But the sources told Yahoo News that Marc Kasowitz, the president’s chief lawyer in the Russia investigation, and Alan Garten, executive vice president and chief legal officer of the Trump Organization, were both informed about the emails in the third week of June, after they were discovered by lawyers for Kushner, who is now a senior White House official."

http://thehill.com/homenews/administration/341984-trumps-lawyers-knew-about-trump-jr-emails-weeks-ago-report

https://www.yahoo.com/news/sources-trump-lawyers-knew-russia-emails-back-june-000320831.html

So, the Senior Advisor to the occupier of the White House knew, his lawyers knew, the chief legal officer of the Trump Organization knew yet, the surrogates went out on T.V. along with the occupier and continually lied about it?

This is great stuff.

These inept clowns just keep on giving.

They must be high-fiving over there at Special Councel Mueller's office...

There are so many dots it's beginning to look like a starlit sky.

And it's only just beginning.

This is just incredible, but not surprising. Are we now supposed to believe that if Kasowitz were informed of these emails he did not tell Trump who had officially engaged him to represent him? It simply is not possible. Trump has now lied again. Can you Trump supporters see that? Nothing to do with Jr or the meeting or Obama, Trump has LIED about when he was informed of the meeting. I think if we start a crowd funding to take Trump to court it would gain millions within 24 hrs.

Yeah, that is the nature of criminal conspiracies, they don't occur in the open where they can be seen and good detectives have to connect those pesky little dots of criminality

Trump-Russia investigators probe Jared Kushner-run digital operation

"Investigators at the House and Senate Intelligence committees and the Justice Department are examining whether the Trump campaign’s digital operation – overseen by Jared Kushner – helped guide Russia’s sophisticated voter targeting and fake news attacks on Hillary Clinton in 2016."

"Congressional and Justice Department investigators are focusing on whether Trump’s campaign pointed Russian cyber operatives to certain voting jurisdictions in key states – areas where Trump’s digital team and Republican operatives were spotting unexpected weakness in voter support for Hillary Clinton, according to several people familiar with the parallel inquiries."

"By Election Day, an automated Kremlin cyberattack of unprecedented scale and sophistication had delivered critical and phony news about the Democratic presidential nominee to the Twitter and Facebook accounts of millions of voters."

Excellent article. Have a look...

Trump Tower meeting included more people beyond Russian lawyer

"The revelation comes as The Associated Press reported Friday that a Russian-American lobbyist named Rinat Akhmetshin said he also attended the June 2016 meeting with Donald Trump Jr."

"Akhmetshin is a registered lobbyist for Veselnitskaya's organization that has focused on lobbying Washington to overturn the Magnitsky sanctions, according to lobbying records."

"Republican Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, who has been lobbied by Akhmetshin, told CNN earlier this year that the lobbyist is someone with "an ulterior motive" who is "involved with people who've got an agenda" and has "international connections to different groups in Russia."

2015 hacking

In a lawsuit filed in July 2015 with the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, it was alleged by International Mineral Resources (IMR) that Akhmetshin committed corporate espionage on behalf of Russian oligarch and industrialist Andrew Melinchenko[6]. The filings regarded a sophisticated data breach by Russian hackers that compromised gigabytes of IMR corporate data.

In the filings, sworn statements by private investigator Akis Phanartizis stated that Akhmetshin boasted that the hacking of IMR's computer system was organized by him. Akhmetshin refused to answer a number of questions under oath or produce 261 requested documents.[citation needed]

On September 8, 2008, at a House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee meeting, Rohrabacher argued that the Georgians had initiated the recent military confrontation in the ongoing Russia–Georgia war.[95][96][97]

In April 2014, he supported the idea of Alaskans rejoining Russia if a majority voters in Alaska wanted to.[98]

According to a 2015 article by Politico reporter Luke O'Brien, Rohrabacher is known for his long-time friendship with Russia's Vladimir Putin and his defense of "the Russian point of view."[99][100] On June 15, 2016, Kevin McCarthy told a group of Republicans, "There's two people I think Putin pays: Rohrabacher and Trump. Swear to God." Paul Ryan ended the conversation, saying "No leaks. This is how we know we're a real family here."[101]

The conversation provides a glimpse at the internal views of GOP leaders who now find themselves under mounting pressure over the conduct of President Trump. The exchange shows that the Republican leadership in the House privately discussed Russia’s involvement in the 2016 election and Trump’s relationship to Putin, but wanted to keep their concerns secret. It is difficult to tell from the recording the extent to which the remarks were meant to be taken literally.

The Honorable John Kelly
Secretary
U.S. Department of Homeland Security Washington, D.C. 20528

Dear Secretary Kelly:

April 4, 2017

I write to obtain information regarding Mr. Rinat Akhmetshin, a Russian immigrant to the United States who has been accused of acting as an unregistered agent for Russian interests and apparently has ties to Russian intelligence.

In July of 2016, Mr. William Browder, the CEO of Hermitage Capital Management, filed a formal complaint with the Justice Department alleging that Mr. Akhmetshin, among others, has failed to register under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (“FARA”) despite undertaking a lobbying campaign on behalf of Russian interests.

Mr. Akhmetshin is a Russian immigrant to the U.S. who has admitted having been a “Soviet counterintelligence officer.”

Charles E. Grassley Chairman
Committee on the Judiciary

So, a “Soviet counterintelligence officer”, meets with a Senior White House Advisor, the campaign manager and the son of the occupier of the White House, in Trump Tower, owned by said occupier, along with a Russian Government attorney; Natalia Veselnitskaya in secret?

Right. All sounds legit.

In fact, it has been reported that he worked for the GRU and allegedly specializes in “active measures campaigns,” i.e., subversive political influence operations often involving disinformation and propaganda.4 According to press accounts, Mr. Akhmetshin “is known in foreign policy circles as a key pro-Russian operator,”5 and Radio Free Europe described him as a “Russian ‘gun-for-hire’ [who] lurks in the shadows of Washington’s lobbying world.”6

But hey!  It's all a big nothing burger!  LOL

Nobody's saying any of that, not even at this forum, let alone in the mainstream media. Unless you've been living in a cave, here's where we are:

Some of president Trump's closest associates are under investigation by a special counsel, and various bipartisan committees in Congress on suspicion of colluding with a foreign adversarial power to interfere in an American election.

That there was interference in the elections is accepted by everyone except the willfully blind.

That Trump associates initially hid their contacts with foreign operatives is a fact.

That Trump associates lied repeatedly about their contacts with foreign operatives is a fact.

That Trump's Adult son, his soon-to-be campaign manager and and his son-in-law who is now part of the Administration's inner sanctum secretly met with a Russian government connected lawyer who an intermediary promised had dirt on their campaign opponent—a meeting they first hid, then denied, then claimed was "unproductive"—is a fact.

That the Trump campaign's *only* input into the GOP policy agenda after Trump's nomination was to water down US support for the Ukrainian government—a key Russian objective—is a fact.

That Trump has alienated NATO allies—a Russian objective—is a fact.

That Trump has isolated America from many friendly countries—another Russian objective—by needlessly withdrawing from the non binding Paris Climate Accord is a fact. The withdrawal damages American credibility without serving any useful purpose in terms of American interests.

Within the civilian administration, the State Department has been the most vehemently anti-Russian. Trump appointed a former oil man well-liked by Russia to Sec. of State who went on to decimate the State Dept, slash its budget, fail to appoint key ambassadors and gut it of expert staffing—none of which serves American interests, but does serve Russian interests.

So you are OK with Trump's entire inner circle meeting with Russian operatives?  Even if under false pretenses?  I sure hope not.

Puh-leeze... his entire inner circle?  Cue the dramatic music & darken the screen on this movie.... blah-blah-blah.  I'm reminded of a Shakespeare play: Much Ado About Nothing.  Politics in action, preaching to the choir.  Sad when you get down to it; it's all a waste of time and money, at taxpayers expense.  Been happening since water was wet.

Yes, the history of treason goes all the way back to the earliest civilizations and probably even earlier than that.

Why do some Americans and Trump supporters want to defend this? Even if it was now remotely true, if I were an American citizen/Trump supporter, I would 100% want this investigated, and if true I would be happy to see my 'hero' banged up in jail for life. The Russians have attacked the very heart of US Democracy and Europe is next, maybe when the Russians get really bold and try the same on China it WILL start a nuclear war. Any decent American should want the law enforcement and judicial system to investigate and judge this on their (the peoples) behalf and then if not guilty - fine, but if guilty sentencing in accordance with the law. It's what America was built on, and now people blinded with stupidity want to throw it all away over partisan loyalties. Amazing America.

Russian-American lobbyist says Russian lawyer presented documents in Trump Jr. meeting

"A man who says he is a previously unreported attendee of the controversial meeting in June 2016 between top Trump campaign advisers and a Russian lawyer said the attorney presented the men with documents."

"Rinat Akhmetshin, a Russian-American lobbyist who served in the Soviet military, told The Associated Press on Friday that the lawyer, Natalia Veselnitskaya, presented documents that she believed detailed the flow of illicit funds to the Democratic National Committee."

"In Akhmetshin's recounting, Veselnitskaya suggested to those in the meeting — including Donald Trump Jr.; President Donald Trump's campaign chairman at the time, Paul Manafort; and Jared Kushner, who's now a White House senior adviser — that they make the contents of the documents public, she said that doing so could help Trump's campaign, Akhmetshin said."
