Not sure if this is the right forum or if it should be in DIY/housing.

How do I go about getting a Yellow Tabien Baan (not even sure if this is the correct spelling).

Posted

First step check with your local amphoe as to there requirements as all have diffrent requirements.

Then you will need the house masters permision to obtain the book.

After you have all the requirements needed by the amphoe it will be plainish sailing.

Just browsed over the long list of existing threads on this topic and indeed there is always some variation to expect.

It might help if you give some details about you:

Where (region) do you live?

What's your status of stay (one year extension?).

Are you married with Thai wife?

Do you live in a rented place/condo or in wife's house?

Why do you want one? What is the advantage of having a Yellow Tabien Baan?

In the last 30 years that I've lived in Thailand I cannot see a single advantage of the yellow tambien baan Other than to confirm your address . There are many simpler ways to do so. . I have many expat friends who own condos and whose wives own houses and none of them have this document. Personally I think it's a bit of an invented con to extract money from foreigners, because there is no information about it in government Gazettes as to what it costs and what is required. The people issuing them make up their own set of requirements and how much it costs. If it was a genuinely gazetted government document it should not cost more than 15 to 20 bt like the pink ID.

Yellow books should be free, if you are charged then that is wrong.

as for usage, they may not be needed that often, but you no longer need Residence Certificates to do anything again, you can get Thai prices for entry to parks, museums etc.

This may not seem a lot, but I still think its worth it.

also, I was mot aware, as inferred in a previous message, that you can get a pink ID WITHOUT first getting a Yellow Book.

the Pink ID is also usefull if travelling around Thailand etc for hotels and car/ Bike hire.

My view as a new arrival is I may as well make a bit of an effort and get them all. As in the UK,  when you need a certain document or proof,  you need it then and there.

Well ive used mine several times now saving x amount on getting cert of residence. What money are they extracting from foreigners. My yellow book and ID card cost me exactly 30bht and that was beacuse i bought a nice pink ID card holder.

My Yellow Book was free, Pink I.D. card 20bht  but they required copy of Passport in Thai 200bht for translation. So now no more costly confirmation letters from immigration.

You may be disappointed. A yellow TB is not universally accepted as proof of address or anything else.

May be not universally, but in Thailand, surely? If not why not and what would be better proof?.

I paid 100bt for the yellow Tabian Baan and 60bt for the pink ID card, which I think was for the photo.  Had to bring along the head of village to witness but he shrugged off payment. I use the ID card at Thai Smile, banks, super rich and museums, never a problem and thais love that you have made the effort.

"If the government wanted aliens to have ID above and beyond our passports, they'd provide it free or at minimal cost."

They are apparently doing that.  Does that mean the government wants us to have them?

One thing I will add is about spelling your name.  Both the yellow card and the pink ID show your name in Thai.  Pretty sure that those who have had rejections is because the Ampour doesn't know how to translate your name, but of course they will not say as much. So if you name is Horatio Withington Smyeth  I suggest you get a certified translation.

Its an official document Section 38 of the Thai Civil Registration Act.

Section 38. The district or local registrar shall issue a household registration for persons without Thai nationality having been permitted to stay temporarily and those having been giving leniency for temporary residence in the Thai Kingdom as a special case in accordance with law on immigration and the declaration of the Cabinet and their children born within the Thai Kingdom.

The main advantage is not needing to get a resident certificate every-time you renew license, buy and sell a vehicle etc, or whenever proof of address is required. Also yellow book is needed to get you the ID card and I have used ID 3-4 times now to get the Thai price at different places. I think it was around 50 baht for yellow book and ID card.

After a longish delay I  started on the road to getting a yellow Tabien Baan yesterday.

Already I know it's going to be long and hard!

I went with my Thai gf to the Ampur where the land on which my house is built is registered. They told me to go to a "sub Ampur?" in the sub district where the house is situated (and where the planning permission was given).

Here the lady had a long conversation with my gf and I could tell from the body language/facial expressions that things were not going well.

When we got home my gf told me that the lady was not sure that a yellow Tabien Baan could be issued because I was not married to a Thai.

I suspect that this was just an excuse to save face as she did not know how to do it.

Anyone have any idea if you have to me married to a Thai to get a Tabien Baan?

Maybe the Department of Provincial Administration (DOPA) can help her with the process.

It is supposed to be free of cost.

It seems there is a legal basis for having it: Section 38 of the Civil Registration Act, in combination with the 2008 revision to the Act. Google this: พระราชบัญญัติ การ ทะเบียนราษฎร.

In a difficult amphur, it is advisable that you went to the office with somebody with strong Thai speaking skills.

It is worth the trouble because you get your Citizen Number, so to speak, it is a 13 digit number unique to you in the whole of Thailand, a must if you are going to apply for citizenship in the foreseeable future.

Wish you all luck!

Thanks

I hear this word Housemaster but have no idea what it means.

I live in the sticks on a run down estate that went bankrupt some years ago. If Housemaster means headman or something like that I suspect there is nobody here that fits that description.

And I still come back to the original Question - If I am not married to a Thai can I get a Yellow Tabien Baan?

If I can't then Housemasters or whatever are not an issue.

Hi.  You can get the yellow book no problem.

We are a farang couple... we have a yellow book for our house.

I think the housemaster will be the house owner.  If you own the house.. that's you!  But I would get a solicitor to help you get all the documents you need and go with you to get it... will make it easier.
