Phnom Penh Municipal Hall yesterday received a donation of 100 buses from China to help expand bus routes in the capital. Five new bus routes are planned in a bid to reduce traffic congestion in the city.

Phnom Penh Governor Khuong Sreng said the buses would also reduce road accidents and pollution. “We have received 100 vehicles and will expand to five more lines, but please give us time to work on the project,” he said after a handover ceremony.

Officials will meet soon to finalise the new routes to serve as many people as possible, he added. “These buses are a form of aid from China. I hope we will eventually get more aid from other countries if we can run our public transport better,” Mr Sreng said.
