Social media was full of comment after a story hit Facebook about a kind hearted Bangkok cabbie who helped out a drunk woman in distress.

The fine example of what the Thai press refer to as "chauffeurs" was Saksit Paritotakaporn who has cab Mor Chor 9564 with Bangkok plates.

He picked up a woman in the Lat Prao area and was heading towards Rachada. But the woman was so drunk that she couldn't tell him where she was headed.

And she certainly couldn't get out in that state. Then she fell asleep.

Saksit, 34, tried to wake her by speaking loudly, but that was no use. And he certainly wasn't going to touch her.

So he took her to Chok Chai police station where she was eventually looked after before relatives were contacted to come and take her home.

The story was related by Torntan Loyprasert on Facebook who was gushing with praise for the driver saying that he was more concerned for the safety of his passenger than getting the fare.

Following the incident on July 10th the woman contacted Saksit after she had sobered up to thank him for his kind actions.

The hero of the hour told Thai Rath later that there are good and bad taxi drivers as there are in any profession. But he stressed that there really are a lot more good than bad.

According to the story related by Torntan the meter was running throughout the time that they were trying to get the woman into the police station. Torntan paid the 255 baht bill that was racked up so that Saksit would not be out of pocket.

To think this is supposed to be the Editors pick? Go figure! Has TV suckered up to TAT now to promote the rare occasions a taxi does something any decent human being would do?

A good thing that driver did however, an editors pick remains to be seen...

The way the article was written this man took herto the police out of fear of being accused to rape her since they caught thelast driver who did this..

A shame taxi companies don't check their driver's backgrounds or licenses for that matter...
