His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn has expressed concern over difficulties faced by people due to heavy flooding, Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha said on Friday night.

Speaking during his weekly television programme, Prayut said the King had asked his royal guards, the military and state officials to help prevent floods as the Meteorological Department has forecast rainfall throughout the country next week.

Prayut said responsible units are working hand in hand to remove trash and unwanted aquatic plants from waterways and canals to increase water flow and unclog drains.

Prayut said the government and the National Council for Peace and Order were heeding the King’s concern and they are constructing water retention areas, enhancing the effectiveness of the country’s drainage system, and rehabilitating natural water sources through a number of development projects.

A campaign similar to “Big Cleaning Day” will be held in Bangkok from July 25-27 and in 76 other provinces from July 29-31, Prayut said.
