Hi there. I'm traveling to Europe and I need to exchange baht into euros at subaanabdegerbdny airport. Is there a limit to how much money you can bring into one of those currency exchange booth? Cheers.

Do it before you go to airport better rate.

Absolutely.

Not only that the exchange rates at the booths within the airport premises are terrible, but also: why have stress/uncertainty on the day of departure when this task that can be done a day or two before?

Where do you stay?

What magnitude of Euros are you thinking of?

1000 Euro

5000 Euro

10000 Euro

more?

I couldn't find exact rules for cash exchange just some casual comment that 5000 Euro wouldn't raise an eyebrow.

It would be about 5000. I'm told that the bank booths are not too bad? I wouldn't mind losing a few hundred baht in the process,  this is a one off operation.

I would need to check again, but my guess would be for every 1,000 euro you would lose 1,000 baht. So change all, probably 5,000 baht lost. This is at the bank booths. The spreads in the airport are that horrible.

Exercise caution :)

ok I will take the bait.....??  Change money where....??

In Bangkok SuperRich (Ratchadamri branch - the ones in the BTS stations and the others are lower), or Vasu Exchange Nana BTS.

Vasu Exchange is normally 0.05 baht lower than SuperRich Ratchadamri.

Example: today Kasikorn (in town) would give 37.87 for 1 Euro.

Vasu Exchange 38.50

SuperRich Ratchadamri 38.55

5K euro

@ Kbank in town = 189,350 baht

@ Vasu = 192,500 baht

@SuperRich Ratchadamri = 192,750 baht

I dont know the exact airport rate but it would be way lower than 37.87, which is the in town rate for Kasikorn......maybe 37 or so. So do the math.

OP would lose more than 5,000 baht actually should he change in the airport as opposed to say a good money changer in town.

I did some observation/math over the years and you loose another 4 to 7 percent at the airport for major currencies.

For 5000 Euro I would at least look for a proper booth/bank in your area (not worth an hour long trip but a stroll).

Kasikorn and SCB are the worst among the biggest banks.

Yeah but even for 5K euro, the difference between a booth/bank and the ones I mentioned above is 3,400 baht.

I prefer jumping into the BTS for that amount, but everyone's different. :)

I still say do it before less hassle more euros in your pocket. One of operation or not. Better in your pocket than the banks
