I have just found this forum thanks to a fellow member who told me about it today! So i hope you will excuse my 1st post being of the advice seeking nature!

I would like to travel to Singapore for my next Visa and would very much appreciate any tips you guys could share with me regarding a Singapore Visa Run!

I would really appreciate any advice on doing a run to Singapore as i have never been, so any tips or advice re where to stay & location of embassy etc etc etc.

many thanks in advance

The embassy is on Orchard Road, just round the corner from Orchard Towers :o

There are many hotels in the area, without knowing your budget it is impossible to advise you, but I have very often booked a hotel when I have arrived in Singapore. As you come through the arrivals walk straight across next to Limousine service and you will find a shop selling all different grades of hotel rooms. With some hotels it is actually cheaper booking through this agency.

Re the embassy go in the morning fill out paperwork go back the following day after 2pm and pick it up. It is a very simple and easy exercise.

If you want to do a quick visa run, it can be done with only a one night stay.

Land in Singapore before 10:30am (just to be safe)

Apply for visa at embassy before 12:15pm noon

Collect visa next day from 2pm - 4:30pm

Depart Singapore in the evening

This is for those who dont have to time or money to waste on a visa run. When we did our visa run, our plane landed at 10:50 am. It only took 9 mins to clear Changi Airport (very efficient airport, the best in the world)

By 11am we were in a taxi and 20 mins later at a cost of $17.90 SGD, we were at the Embassy.

However if you fly a budget airline that is prone to being delayed I would reccomend at least 2 nights, just in case you cant make it to the embassy straight from the airport.

Have fun!

I was there this week but didn't risk a one nighter.

Try Hotel 81 for a budget hotel. There are many in the city and a Google search will get you the website.

If you are near the underground, use it and get out at Orchard for the Thai Embassy, a couple of minute's walk.

The queue goes down much quicker than you might imagine when you look at your ticket number and compare it with the one on the display at the time as they tend to be quite impatient. Don't miss your slot and make sure all your paperwork is in order.

If, like me, you forget your photos there's a place just over the other side of Orchard Road.

Most importantly, for the best beer deal in town, take advantage of the happy hour at Brewerkz on Boat Quay, where the prices change four times during the day. Lunchtime is very very cheap and the beer is excellent.

In getting my initial 90 day B visa, I stayed at the "Hotel - 81 Palace". Very nearby is the "Hotel 81 - Star" (Hotel 81 has many branches with different names like Palace, Star, etc.).

Depending on the season you go, it's about 1000 to 1500 baht per day (budget hotel). That's really cheap by Singapore standards so I was expecting a real dump.

Instead, I was pleasantly surprised to get a small but clean and comfortable room with no frills. (Breakfast isn't included, but there are 7 - 11s and cheap eateries nearby).

If you stay in either "palace" or "star", it's exactly one bus ride away from Orchard Road, the road of the embassy and the main shopping district. (Bus number 71 or 77 I think... just ask the reception)

That's also in the Geylang district (red light) but it's a very safe country to begin with, with almost zero crime so I wouldn't be worried. Geylang road also has really good cheap food... make sure you try the sweet and sour pork, it's da_mn good compared to any sweet sour pork in any chinese food resto I've tried in BKK.

If you have time, you can book at discounted prices at www.asiarooms.com, but you'd have to book a week in advance. If you don't have time, you can contact them directly www.hotel81.com.sg

Hope it helps.
