So  Fake  unqualified , non professional english "teachers" are good enough, in your opinion, for SEA children ?

Yes, they should have a minimum of a Masters in Education from an Ivy League college, IMO, I am sure they will be lining up in their thousands to make 25,000B a month in Nakhon Nowhere.

How many local teachers do you know?

I have two local teachers as neighbours --- both speak excellent English ..............

If a teacher can teach the course proscribed then he is doing his job. Without a doubt exposure to native English speakers would improve the students'chances no end

It is quite irrelevant about how many teachers that either of us personally know

Also, I was referring to the many little village schools up and down the Country, where they cannot attract full qualified English speaking English teachers

So it becomes very clear that you are talking through your hat............ I will resist asking how many little village schools you have personally visited.

Also FYI  a friend of my wife received her early education in a "little village  school"  She is now a degree qualified, Thai/English speaking Medical Laboratory Scientist who specialises in immunohaematology.

My point was that just because either you or myself knows ONE person, who can either speak English or not, who is working as an English teacher, is quite irrelevant, when we are talking about English teachers in the whole country

You seem to be saying that ONE example is typical of the whole situation

I am saying that typically, Thai English teachers in Thai village Schools sometimes cannot even speak English themselves, and an unqualified English speaker would be the better teacher

And I know you are completely unable to evidence that statement unless you have spoken to every village school teacher in Thailand

Give up.

You misspelled immunohematology.....I got a good laugh the other day jogging behind a girl with a jersey that said "Animal Laboratory."

It doesn't matter how good you are at a particular thing. Being able to do it and being able to teach it are completely different

Well, unless you have also spoken to every single Thai English teacher in the villages and can confirm that they can all speak English, you cannot say what I say isnt correct

Oh come on we all know that all across Thailand kids are being taught be non native English speakers who cannot pronounce English words correctly.   Perhaps some lucky kids out there have amazing non native English speaking teachers, but they are few and far between.   The quality of English teaching here is shocking.  Kids do not leave school capable of speaking English.

Although the problem is that any decent English teacher will not be interested in a job in a little village in Asia

They will not spend four years at Uni to get a degree to go and teach in a remote village in Asia for a pittance

So, the Schools choice is to either have a non English speaking English teacher, or an unqualified English speaking English teacher

Ah The experience of one little villge school allows you to extrapolate that miniscule piece of information to the WHOLE of Thailand ?

Just as a matter of interest how many Thai English teachers were employed in this little village ?

Whoever either you or I know is quite irrelevant to the bigger picture......and now you make the same point back to me ?

This is becoming a bickering thread and if we continue, it is likely to be closed, so, best we call it a day

Wrong : You forgot about the other choice.

No teacher.

Thai people only need to know Thai, didn't you hear that it has a good chance of being the number one language in the world one day. Paryuth himself said this so it must be true.

WYF does this have with someone being refused entry anyway ?

Getting a work-permit to teach English in Thailand is more difficult - that's all I'm pointing out.

In my passport-country, USA, an ED degree is one of the easiest course-sets there is (and it shows).  Things are different in Germany (and it shows).

But in Vietnam or Cambodia, they are happy to learn English to a basic, conversational level.  This is not university-level English.  I cannot count the times I walked up to a little shop or stall in Cambodia, and a 6-year old was called by mama, ran out and said, "Hello, may I help you?"  It didn't take a PhD to teach them the basics, and now they can communicate with everyone from the USA and Europe - and others in ASEAN, which is the point of the effort.

Agree on the Ed degree.  Usually a place for the Math illiterates to hide, because the only have to take Math For Ed Majors...one course.  Elementary school Math instruction is horrible, as a result.

I suspeced that the law about working without a permit was no longer valid due to it's recent suspension and this view has been confirmed today by the police looking into that 'my mate nate' guy. He had no work permit but can't be charged due to the suspended law.

So the law about working without a work permit was suspended one week ago and here we are with a new crackdown on people who might be working based on non existant evidence. But the new law is suspended. The old law is no longer law as it was replaced by the new one.

So : There is currently no law against foreigners working in Thailand until January 1, 2018.

Why refuse entry to anyone if it's not the law any more ?

See the Nate story - at the moment there's an amnesty for foreign workers so he's not getting prosecuted until it's safe for the Cambodians/Burmese toreturn.

That is not true. That is only for the changes put in place for migrant workers. The working alien act of 2008 is still in effect.

an option, that many airlines choose to exercise. Some seem to check more than others.  Some follow the rules hard and fast

Has happened to be twice one time I had to purchase a onwards Ticket before they would let me on the plane. The other time the airline wouldn't even sell me a single ticket unless I showed them a visa. Both times was about 15 years ago.

I read that article earlier. IMO  what the labor ministry said was a one off for Nate as a face saving move.

As far as I know the waiver is only for the harsher penalties under the new act.
