Also FYI  a friend of my wife received her early education in a "little village  school"  She is now a degree qualified, Thai/English speaking Medical Laboratory Scientist who specialises in immunohaematology.

My point was that just because either you or myself knows ONE person, who can either speak English or not, who is working as an English teacher, is quite irrelevant, when we are talking about English teachers in the whole country 

   You seem to be saying that ONE example is typical of the whole situation

I am saying that typically, Thai English teachers in Thai village Schools sometimes cannot even speak English themselves, and an unqualified English speaker would be the better teacher

Having lived in a little village and spoken with the Thai English teachers in the School who cannot speak English , I do have firsthand experience

Oh come on we all know that all across Thailand kids are being taught be non native English speakers who cannot pronounce English words correctly.   Perhaps some lucky kids out there have amazing non native English speaking teachers, but they are few and far between.   The quality of English teaching here is shocking.  Kids do not leave school capable of speaking English.

   They will not spend four years at Uni to get a degree to go and teach in a remote village in Asia for a pittance

I suspeced that the law about working without a permit was no longer valid due to it's recent suspension and this view has been confirmed today by the police looking into that 'my mate nate' guy. He had no work permit but can't be charged due to the suspended law.

 

So the law about working without a work permit was suspended one week ago and here we are with a new crackdown on people who might be working based on non existant evidence. But the new law is suspended. The old law is no longer law as it was replaced by the new one.

 

So : There is currently no law against foreigners working in Thailand until January 1, 2018.

 

Why refuse entry to anyone if it's not the law any more ?

Has happened to be twice one time I had to purchase a onwards Ticket before they would let me on the plane. The other time the airline wouldn't even sell me a single ticket unless I showed them a visa. Both times was about 15 years ago.

I read that article earlier. IMO  what the labor ministry said was a one off for Nate as a face saving move.

As far as I know the waiver is only for the harsher penalties under the new act.
