JohnLennon
Hi everyone, first time posting here although I have used this forum a lot for general advice as everyone seems nice and helpful! I have been in Thailand for 6 months and had visas for all of my time here. My current visa runs out tomorrow, on the 27th, however I leave Thailand to return to the UK on the 1st August. On the 28th - 30th I will fly to Krabi and back for one last weekend with my girlfriend before I leave. I figured that by going to Chaengwattana to renew I would likely spend 2500 (including taxis there and back etc) and if I overstay my visa by 5 days I will have to pay 2500 fine. So my question is, will I be asked to just pay this fine when I am leaving Bangkok on the 1st? if so, I am fine with that and will just do that, or will someone say something on my way to Krabi and back? Thanks in advance for your help and sorry if I have asked a stupid/already answered question JohnLennon
Grumpy Old Man
Hello "John Lennon" My personal thoughts on the subject of "Overstay" and dealing with Thai Immigration is I always keep my UK Passport clear of any "Black Marks" / Overstay stamps as I don't want to have any problems or issues with Thai Immigration in the future; other than my 90 Day reporting and my annual "Extension to stay" I'd rather have no contact with Thai Immigration at all. . . . Just my school of thought ! I'd do the renewal myself. . . . Edited July 26, 2017 by Rimmer Font size
ubonjoe
Unless you get caught before leaving the country just paying the overstay fine is all there would be at the airport. If caught it could be a stay in detention, deportation and a ban from entering the country for 5 years.
JohnLennon
Thanks Grump Old Man, pretty solid advice, definitely not grump ubonjoe, thanks, when you say getting caught how would this happen? Been here 6 months and must have been really lucky because i've never felt once like I was going to be stopped or 'caught' by police. Do you think this is likely to happen at the airport when I fly to Krabi and back? For domestic flights they usually just check the photo page correct? Thanks for your advice guys
paul18620
You can't think much of your girlfriend if your not willing to pay 2500 bhat all in as you have stated so you can stay the extra days hassle free. I just hope you don't get caught if you don't do this as you won't be seeing her for a long time so you better have a good last weekend together as might be your last for a very very long time. Thanks for your advice guys If you think its likely not to happen that you get caught,I suppose you couldn't let me know the lottery numbers for this weekend can you . You can't predict what will happen when you visit Krabi, for instance you might get into an accident and when they inspect your passport you would be on overstay already since your visa expires tomorrow.I hope you don't get into any kind of accident but you can't tell what is going to happen. JohnLennon
Paul, I don't feel like you are making any positive contributions to this discussion, so if you could kindly move on and bother someone else that would be lovely.

Popular Post paul18620
I said it would be wise to go to your local immigration office and pay for the extension on your visa which will expire tomorrow ,but you don't think it is worth the 2500 bhat that it would cost you. You would rather take a risk ,of maybe being caught and probably banned from entering Thailand for a long time. Its your own fault if you get caught as people have informed you what to do but if you don't listen its up to you !!!!!

I have listened to ubonjoe, who has actually given me some practical advice. I like how you wish for me to get caught though, aren't you a positive person! He was actually being nice enough to warn you that for the sake of 2500 Baht, even if there is a very remote chance of getting caught, it would not be worth it, especially if you have a gf here whom you plan to live with in the future. You seem to be looking only for a reply that fits into your pre-planned option of paying the overstay fine at the airport.
Moonmoon
Just go and do the extension. As immigration is tightening up as we have read nowadays. You never know what they might be up to. Don't give the immigration a reason to fault you. Go Go Go extend your visa for 5 days to save yourself from possible inconvenience even if it might inconvenient you for a few hours travelling. Cheers
