The THai  government is not coterminous with Thailand. Bashing the first does not mean you are bashing the other. People who understand democracy understand this distinction. I'm an Australian citizen. I'm not fond of the government. I bash it quite often. But I like Australia very much, not least for the fact that I am allowed to bash the government.

The Thai word for wife may have been translated as consort because in the same context the plural form is also used, with reference to the persons accompanying other cabinet members. As not not all cabinet members may be male and married, neither wife nor spouse would have been applicable for all of them, and "persons accomanying other cabinet ministers" would have been rather long-winded. I wonder how that part was written in Thai media.

But neither the PM or the lady in question are royalty.

 

Too much importance being made of a poor choice of words when making a simple translation. The original Thai news releases appears to use the Thai words for 'wife' and 'his wife'.

 

The so-called Thai 'free press' are making much of bugger all. There's so much more pressing and important things they could bring up the current administration on but that would genuinely be too dangerous hard.

Does this sound suspiciously like the whole fake narrative nonsense coming out of the very white house? It seems those who do not like a critical view of themselves, always try to discredit the source of the news, rather than taking responsibility for their actions, and improving their performance. The Little man seems to hate criticism as much as the maniacal nitwit in the very white house.

Patriotic citizens noticed this, and posted photos.  The Govt tried to ban the offensive photos, got lambasted by social media, and had to back down and claim that they weren't really serious about the attempt at censorship, "misunderstanding" and other usual excuses.

Nevertheless, it was an enormous faux pas, so I suspect the Wife will be in the dog house and keep a low profile for a while.

Maybe some don't like auspicious coloured clothes for reasons only known to them and prefer black for good reason.

Looks like a lot of people didn't get that 'memo' and Herr Prayuth didn't notice his wife getting dressed in a rush to get down to the event in front of a photograph. Early days though for everybody to 'get with the program'. At least they made an effort to get there.
