CityNews – Chiang Mai is aiming to reduce total waste output by 5% by the end of 2017 by following the national strategy of 3Rs; reduce, reuse and recycle.

First things :

Educate 7/11 staff not to give a plastic bag for every single purchase, and a straw for every liquid.

Educate people to take their own bag(s) when shopping: make plastic bags chargeable.

Whenever I go to 7/11 which is not often , I have to tell them "no bag"

They even sell separate bananas in bags !

All these snacks and ready meals come in throw away packaging .

Drinks in plastic cups, there must be millions of those cups thrown away every day !

and the bizarre thing is that the clerks either cannot fathom NOT using bags OR they are even a bit irritated when you do not use one

well, i will give them a small tip of the hat that they didnt spout some nonsense about 30% or so

Feaugh, 5% is just a PR gesture. Barely noticeable.

And what's with that incinerator remark? That's a pollution solution??

Normally we hear some ridiculous goal of say 50%. This one is at least reasonable and obtainable.

Ask the 7 girls for a paper bag and smile at the look they will give you.
