AYUTTHAYA: -- Officials seized almost 4.5 million methamphetamine pills when they intercepted a pickup truck and a white Mitsubishi Pajero SUV on the Asia highway in Ayutthaya’s Maharaj district late on Thursday night.

However, the drivers of the two vehicles managed to flee on foot after abandoning their vehicles.

The two vehicles refused to stop at a road checkpoint manned by district officials and civilian volunteers in front of the PTT petrol station in Moo 4 village in Tambon Thator in Maharaj at 10pm.

After the vehicles were abandoned, 4.2 million meth pills were found in a white Mitsubishi Pajero SUV and another 180,000 pills in a black pickup.
