NARATHIWAT: -- Insurgents detonated a roadside bomb to ambush a team of deputy inspectors from Sugnai Padi police station in Narathiwat on Friday, but the police car escaped the blast. Nobody was injured.

Police said that the ambush took place at 10am on the Sugnai Padi-Joh I Rong road in Ban Bang Prao village in Tambon Sungai Padi of Sugnai Padi district.

Pol-Captain Preecha Polsa, deputy inspector of Sungai Padi station, was travelling in the car with two policemen. When they reached the spot, insurgents detonated the bomb with a walkie-talkie.

Because of the way that the bomb was placed on top of an anthill, the blast was directed upwards. The main blast force missed the car, which suffered only minor damage.

Police said the bomb appeared to be made of 20 kilogrammes of explosives and was assembled in a gas cylinder.

assembled in a gas cylinder

In February 2017 the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) Region 4’s Front Command banned steel cooking-gas cylinders weighing 15 kilograms or less in Yala, Narathiwat and Pattani and in the Chana, Na Thawi, Saba Yoi and Thepha districts of Songkhla province. This ban was to prevent insurgents making use of the steel cylinders in bomb-making. People violating the ban would face a criminal charge which carries a penalty of up to two years in prison and/or a Bt40,000 fine.

Looks like the insurgents attack on the deputy inspectors from Sugnai Padi police station using a gas cylinder are in real trouble!
