"Kheak" which basically means visitor, perhaps it shares similar roots to the Chinese word for guest, 客.

"Jek" is an adoptation of the Chinese dialect (likely Teochew or Hokkien) word for uncle,  extremely patriarchal but that's the Chinese influence in Thailand.

Thanks.  Now that I think about it, 'Kheak" is visitor.  Maybe just a local reference.  Can't comment on "Jek", but it makes sense.

On the contrary it's people like you that think you are superior, you think playing the race card gives you the moral high ground, politicians used to try to brainwash us with the term colour prejudice until they worked out that some nationalities of colour are actually quite likeable, unlike anyone from the subcontinent.

What are you talking about Kev? I most certainly don't think I'm superior nor am I one of the many TV members here who has tried to portray Indian tourists as unworthy tourists. You need to go back and read the posts again - this time slowly ?

When we used to get asked to quote for projects from Indian companies our terms were money up front before mobilisation.

Pretty standard in the oil and gas industry so I believe.

India was the only country I insisted on money up front, never any work before funds received. IME, anyone or business that does any work upfront will have a devil of a job getting paid. They will use every trick to delay payment and constantly seek extra discounts and reductions from the agreed price.

They seem to consider the negotiation is never finished until they've reluctantly parted with the money. And they are never embarrassed trying it on and never tire of trying.

They know they can breach contracts because the legal system is ridiculously slow and riddled with corruption.

Not all Indians and Indian companies operate like that. But a significant percentage do.

As with all these plans, they haven't planned for the fact that the well heeled go elsewhere.

Well said. It gives them a (false) sense of superiority - something they could never feel back in Falagistan.

Let me tell you a great story mate.

I arrived at Schiphol airport in Europe, there were long qeueu's at the customs but the lines for the automatic counters were not that long and since i have an EU passport i'm allowed to use them, which i did.

There was a group of Indians in our qeueu, the machines didn't let them pass of course since they didn't have an EU passport.

We all had to wait for that several minutes, they kept on trying.

Then i asked an older Indian man next to me if India was in the EU?? (he had an Indian passport in his hand). He didn't understand my question so i asked it to his indian neighbour. YES he said, India is in the EU and the whole group started examining me.

Then some other Europeans started laughing loud and told them India is NOT in the EU, now go back to those long qeueu's please and let us pass here. :clap2:

I think we just miss understand TAT because they keep misspelling quantity, instead they say quality? Chinese + Indians = quantity!

Had a similar experience in Singapore when a horde of seemingly educated and hi-so Thais attempted the automated gates meant for Singaporeans and approved individuals.

I bet all the Indian tailors are drooling at the prospect of all those potential new homegrown customers.

Tricky example, I'm aware of a school here in Thailand wanting to buy floating swimming lanes for their pool, assigned person did a google search and opened the website of an Indian company selling various items of pool equipment.

Some messages transpired asking about size, colour, quantity, price etc., but no indication whatever of a purchase.

Several days later school person get's an e.mail from Indian company saying the goods are waiting in Bangkok to go through customs. Mail also indicates that a large amount of customers duty and admin. fees must be paid, also indicates that the said fess have to be paid by a funds transfer from the supplier only.

Same mail asks for the funds to be transferred from Thailand to a given bank account in India so that the Indian company can then do a bank transfer to the Thai customs department.

Local school guy ignored the message. No further messages ever received from Indian company.

Tricky, tricky, tricky.

Sounds like Indian "innovation" !!

I had ThB47000 withdrawn from my bank account, through a number of ATMs in Calcutta over the new year.

I've only ever been to Mumbai and Dheli airports as a transit passenger, but it would appear that the card was copied here (I've only ever used it in Chiang Rai) and then used in India.

Apparently India is a "hub" for cloning cards.

You will understand my somewhat jaundiced view of the place...

It gives them a false sense of superiority, this statement indicates to me that you regard your views as superior. By the way where is Falagistan ?

And many consulting companies have experienced the strong attempts to push for additional work to be completed on top of the the already agreed / endorsed scope of work.

One instance I'm aware of is telling the consulting juniors that their boss agreed to additional work and pushing for the work to be completed very quickly.

Tricky, tricky, tricky.

You didn't write Falangistan, you wrote Falagistan, maybe you should read your own posts "slowly"

Kev, are you getting bent out of shape because of a typo? Seriously, you need to get a hobby. It was a typing error... lol.

Anyways, I'm not interested in a b*t*ching match so this'll be my last reply to you Kev. Have a nice day.

PS I just thought I should let you know that that was a deliberate typo as such words are generally frowned upon on this forum.

Singapore, Indians although small in numbers cannot be denied their contributions to the island state's prosperity today.

It depends how they got them ! Frankly ! i dont beleive in their honesty.

Thais hate Indians mate.

Hate to break it to you.

Actually, i feel that it is the Isaan farmers, Pattaya bar girls, prostitutes and dating site hookers who vastly prefer farangs, even if they are old enough to be their father or grandfather, rich or poor. The modern, educated and economically independent Thai girl is more likely to choose an educated Indian/Chinese or other Asian man of her age over an ageing farang living on his pension or teaching wages and struggling with his visa runs.

Trawling through the escort pages and bars, one can find quite a few sex workers here that refuse to have Indians as clients. They are doing that for a reason.

Absolutely true! Prostitutes prefer farangs and vice versa!
