PATTAYA: -- A Russian woman on Tuesday became the latest victim of Pattaya’s infamous motorcycle bag snatchers.

Awastdsita Solodking, 33, told police she was walking back to her room at Soi Sea Hill 5 around 11pm when she was approached by two men on a motorcycle who snatched her handbag.

The bag contained 4,000 baht in cash and a mobile phone worth 10,000 baht, the woman said.

A witness told Siamchon News that the suspects were seen waiting in the area before the robbery took place.

Police said they will examine CCTV footage of the area to try and identify the suspects.

These idiots don't realize that the people they snatch bags from, and rob, go home, go online, and tell all their friends, along with the general public.  Which causes people who were thinking of coming her to give it a second thought, and pick somewhere else to take their vacation.  Before long, the number of visitors starts to decrease, and their are less people to become victims.

I'm sure that's the last thing on their mind as they are about to do their deed.

Another one didn't get the memo, foreigner ladies at night try not to take a purse out at night 11pm you just made yourself a target use a money bag under your dress or wear pants.

Silly girl! If she kept her money in Roubles, the thieves would definitely not take them - maybe they'd even give the poor girl a few baht to get a drink and a motocy back to her room...

Not sure the idiots Just1Voice is referring to is the thieves. It could be the police/judiciary

and their failure to stop these robberies. With a little chance of being caught, tourists returning

home from their holiday so few witnesses for court and the standard 500 baht fine and no

restitution if you have spent/fenced the stolen goods there are no significant consequences

for the crime. Of course everyone the victim knows and then some is going to post about the

negative experience they suffered. The "idiots" in charge are doing nothing to stop these crimes.

It doesn't reflect well on your intellect either that you believe they should give a damn. They are thieves, possibly addicts, and a 'mark' is a mark. Foreigners are good targets because unlike many of the local population are likely to be carrying cash and items of value. Foreigners are not regarded with a lot of respect either.

I accept your point that this deters tourists, and the desperate thieves will then be chasing a different target.....

There is insufficient police presence.

It is high time the police got a grip of themselves and started issuing penalties that fit the crime and stop just slapping these people who commit the crimes on the wrist, I think a more just sentence would be to find the culprits equal to the crime they commit, e.g. in this case 14,000 Baht, this I'm sure would be more of a deterrent than a wrist slap.

No income, get a big fine, agree to pay 2000 a month so have to go stealing again to get the 2000 every month.

Rinse and repeat.

The police will sit behind their desks and watch CCTV film from the few that work.  They will hope for a breakthrough when a member of the public identifies a culprit.  Only then will they venture out from the police station so long as it's not dark; or raining; or a weekend; or a day containing a wan in it.
