COPENHAGEN (Reuters) - A headless female torso was found on Monday in the water's edge in Copenhagen, hours after a Danish inventor charged with killing a journalist in his home-made submarine told a court she died on board, police said.

Peter Madsen told the court that Swedish journalist Kim Wall had died in an accident and he had buried her at sea, changing his earlier statement the he dropped her off alive in Copenhagen.

Police later told a press conference that it was still too early to identify the body - missing its head, legs and arms - that was found by a passing cyclist.

"It is clear that the police, like the media and everybody else, is speculating whether this female body is Kim Wall, but it is way too soon to tell," Copenhagen police spokesman Jens Moller said.

The case is being followed particularly closely by Danish and Swedish media but has drawn interest from around the world.

The body had been sent for forensic analysis while divers continued to search the area where it was found, Moller said.

Madsen has been charged with the manslaughter of Wall who has been missing since he took her out to sea in his 17-metre submarine on Aug. 10. He denies the charge.

He was rescued a day later after his UC3 Nautilus sank. Police found nobody else in the wreck.

Danish and Swedish maritime authorities are using divers, sonar and helicopters in the continued search for the body in Koge Bay, south of the city, and in the Oresund Strait between the two countries.

Madsen, an entrepreneur, artist, submarine builder and aerospace engineer, went before a judge on Saturday for preliminary questioning. The case is not open to the public to protect further investigation, police said.

The, "I buried her at sea comment" should see him buried......pathetic. And then probably deliberately sinking his own sub to hide evidence.....pathetic. Then lying to the police and then changing his story......pathetic.

I find murderers and their stories fascinating, mainly because they invariably think they will get away with it, even though historically in western countries they do not.

There was one a few years ago in the USA where the guy said he was forty or fifty miles away when his wife was murdered.....but all the cell phone tracking placed him in the immediate area of the murder. Off he went to prison.

I am always up for a good read on actual murders, so if anybody has any good book suggestions, and you can also PM me.

COPENHAGEN (Reuters) - Danish police said on Tuesday the size of a headless female torso found on the sea's edge in Copenhagen suggested it could be that of a Swedish journalist who died after taking a submarine ride with the vessel's Danish inventor.

Reports via BBC from Denmark are also torso missing head arms/legs and was weighted down with metal tied around it to keep it on sea bed.

Mmm, looks like Mr Madnutter may be looking at changing his story again in next day or two??

First he says he let her off on an island, then he changed it to there was an unfortunate accident and she died, so I buried her at sea... (forgot to add he chopped her up into manageable pieces or maybe that was a result of the err accident??)
