Accident Collision Claims Couple’s Lives in Chachoengsao
Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A man and woman lost their lives in the early hours of the morning of 8 June, after their motorcycle collided head-on with a Mitsubishi Pajero in Chachoengsao province. The fatal collision occurred at approximately 16:30 on the canal-side road near Chuat Chado Bridge in Moo 6, Kon Kaew subdistrict, Khlong Khuean district. Police Lieutenant Thanawam Champahom, an investigator from Khlong Khuean Police Station, responded to the scene alongside forensic doctors from Khlong Khuean Hospital and local rescue personnel. The road, a two-lane carriageway, became the site of a gruesome scene. Officers found a severely damaged Honda Wave motorcycle with Chachoengsao plates lying on its side, blocking the centre of the road. The front end was crushed, the engine shattered, and the front wheel had detached entirely. Debris was scattered across the tarmac. Approximately 10 metres away, a Mitsubishi Pajero bearing Bangkok registration was discovered straddling the lane. Its front end was crumpled and the bonnet forced open. Blood stains were visible on the rear-left side of the roof, alongside a hair tie presumed to belong to one of the victims. Lying nearby were the bodies of two individuals, believed to be between 20 and 25 years old. The woman was wearing white shorts and a long-sleeved black top. She had no identification documents on her and was found face down, bleeding profusely from the head with a clearly broken neck. The male victim, also undocumented, was wearing black shorts and a navy hoodie. He too was lying face down, with significant bleeding from his head, forehead and chest, consistent with a high-impact collision. After an initial examination, both bodies were transferred to Phutthasothon Hospital for further forensic analysis and to await identification by next of kin. Mr Piyapong 48, the driver of the Pajero, told police he had been driving to his girlfriend’s house in Mueang district when the incident occurred. He stated that the motorcycle appeared to veer into his lane as the rider seemed to be turning to speak with the passenger. “It happened so fast,” Mr Piyapong said. “I tried to swerve, but couldn’t avoid the collision. I didn’t even have time to sound the horn.” Police have stated that Mr Piyapong will be summoned for further questioning at Khlong Khuean Police Station as they work to determine the precise cause of the crash. The breakthrough came after the Cambodian army initiated talks with Thailand's Suranaree Task Force this morning, following heightened strains after a deadly clash on May 28 at Chong Bok, Ubon Ratchathani. Lt. Gen. Boonsin Phadklang of Thailand's 2nd Army granted permission for negotiations after approval from Army Commander Gen. Pana Klaewplodthuk. This de-escalation will see both nations' forces withdraw and commit to weekly dialogues at Chong Bok to ensure peace is maintained. Meanwhile, border crossings have been operating under restricted hours since last night, with cautions issued on power supplies to Cambodian areas from nine specific points, should hostilities resurface. Despite the all-clear on the troops’ retreat, tensions remain palpable among border communities. Cambodians express dissatisfaction with the restricted crossing hours, forcing them to rush trans-border trade activities. Thai traders, on the other hand, support the active measures taken by their military to safeguard national borders and security. In an effort to deter any further deployments, the 2nd Army Command had considered cutting electricity to Cambodian regions, a move prepared to be activated if Cambodia neglects the agreement. Monitoring of the border situation remains stringent, with attention on the compromised regions of Ubon Ratchathani since the recent outbreak of violence. A total of nine key locations have been identified for potential power cuts, spanning provinces such as Sisaket, Chanthaburi, and Trat. Army and Navy operation centres control these critical sites, from where electricity is supplied to Cambodian provinces like Banteay Meanchey and Battambang.
