North Korea fires multiple short-range projectiles into sea - South Korea

SEOUL (Reuters) - North Korea early on Saturday fired several short-range projectiles into the sea off its east coast from its eastern Kangwon province, South Korea's military said.

The South Korean Office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said the projectiles flew in a northeasterly direction for about 250 kilometres (155 miles) into the sea.

Earlier, South Korea's Yonhap news agency said a ballistic missile may have been fired, without citing a source.

Japan's NHK broadcast said the projectiles did not appear to be objects that could threaten Japan's safety.

The launch is the first by the North since it test-fired a missile on July 28 that could have been designed to reach 10,000 km (6,200 miles), putting parts of the U.S. mainland within reach.

The launch comes amid an easing of tension after weeks of harsh exchange of threats between North Korea and the United States after the North's leader Kim Jong Un threatened to fire missiles into the sea near the U.S. Pacific territory of Guam.

On Wednesday, Kim ordered the production of more rocket engines and missile warheads during a visit to a chemical institute of the Academy of Defence Science, an agency that he fostered to develop its ballistic missile programme.

Diagrams and what appeared to be missile parts shown in photographs published in the North's state media suggested Pyongyang was pressing ahead with building a longer-range ballistic missile that could potentially reach any part of the U.S. mainland.

It is also believed to be developing a solid-fuel missile that could be used for submarine launches.

North Korea's state media reported on Saturday that Kim had guided a contest of amphibious landing and aerial strike by its army against targets modelled after South Korean islands near the sea border on the west coast.

So he don't stop his provocations. The US should react appropriately - otherwise letal nukes in a mad man's hands and never ending tensions will be unavoidable.  For what do they have drones and all their high tech stuff?

Do you really think that if North Korea and the US go "HOT", that the world stays the same?

Ponder this, South Korea, parts of China, Japan would feel immediate effects. ( for Thailand in 3-4 days depending on ordinance used )

Middle finger at TRUMP.....you want him to do what..Nuke N.K?

Restraint is the only option the US ( Trump ) has at this time ...... UNLESS he bombs N.K. into a parking lot, this you want?

If " Kim" is stupid enough to use ordance of ANY kind on / at ( maybe ) a US territory, or  neighboring countrie(s), a military response WILL start with many people dead.

A very lame response for Kim. His firing off 200 artillery pieces was more spectacular.

Either his next nuclear test or ballistic missile launch has been delayed for whatever reason, or he is confused by China's neutrality in the event he launches missiles at the US or its allies. So playing it safe with short range missile firings eastward to make sure there's no threat to US allies.

It's being reported all 3 failed.  LOL

Failed tests are good, they can look at the data, see what went wrong and fix the problems. Every country has had many failed missile tests, even NASA is still blowing up rockets right after launch.. lol

There's more than one mad man within reach of nukes.

Does that mean that successful tests are bad?

"North Korea fires multiple short-range projectiles into sea"

Kim throwing his toys out of the pram when someone kicked sand in his face on the beach.

Yes, and any more sanctions and I will kill thousands more fish.

Here is to hoping that one of these days the range will be short enough for him to shoot himself in the foot

I agree nukes in the hands of mad man Trump it does not bear thinking about. You must remember nothing was done until NK said they had missiles that could reach the USA then the USA wanted the world to condemn NK. I fear the USA and Israel more than NK.

The UN has had sanctions against North Korea for decades. So yes, something was done well before now. The entire U.N. security council voted for these sanctions. Many countries are obviously quite nervous.

The guy who just got executed for these failed tests might not agreed with you!  LOL

You need to reread a few decades of history. Nothing but UN resolutions and empty hot air was ever done for decades UNTIL President Trump was elected. He's the 1st person in history to step up and outright threaten to kill the little fat man or his father or his grandfather.
