BANGKOK: -- The reported escape abroad of former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra will not affect the Finance Ministry’s steps to freeze her assets under an administrative order, permanent secretary for finance Somchai Sajjapongse said.

Mr Somchai was referring to the administrative order issued by the Finance Ministry for Ms Yingluck to pay compensation for damages of about 35.7 billion baht, or 20% of the total losses incurred by the rice-pledging scheme carried out by her government.

He said the ministry has sent a letter to agencies concerned to supply information in order to freeze her assets.

So an order to fine her (for 35.7 billion baht) has been issued before anyone even knows if she will be (officially) found guilty?

Circus-trial. As expected.

I think you'll find that the order to pay back the billions was issued before the trial even started.

It's a foregone conclusion and general knowledge by now that she would have found to be guilty last Friday hence the bolting away in the middle of the night,

and until and when she'll come back, if ever to contest and fight the charges, she 's presumed guilty as sin....

Indeed. And the the way she pushed Boonsong under the bus says a lot about her character; a smile on the front, but a knife in the back.

Freezing is not enough , asset forfeiture is the way to go. Confiscate all Shinawatra property , all stakes in companies , real estate and money , if there is anything left. Check all family members , even employees for too large to explain assets. The only way to strike a blow to them is taking all they have in Thailand and possibly abroad.

Exactly why she did a runner.

Love your name! I wrote the OP to that name years ago under a different TV name. Glad to see it part of the nomenclature.

Who cares about shares ? S&P and DJ are sky high but the US economy is in the cra__per. Prayut is doing a good job keeping the country stable and keeping the kiddies from fighting.

I'm sure a lot of the more liquid assets have been held outside Thailand for a long time. All those tax free havens and the usual secret banking hubs being well stuffed.

But, she has property, land, expensive jewelry, etc. Unless of course it's all been distributed among the servants and drivers!

Interesting to see how ruthless they are in the seizing of things. That might be an indication of the deal done.

As we not know where she is, and the verdict has not yet been read I am surprised so many people know the answer before it is give,

We all are allowed opinions, but I prefer facts, not opinions

Learn to read; freeze assets isn't the same as a fine. You freeze asset to prevent that someone moves the assets, so you WHEN found guilty, you are sure that there are some assets.

i and a lot of others might agree on that first part, however in any event ,their army of lawyers has doubtless shifted the assets around to avoid seizure

Well she maybe a fool but she has access to more power privilege and personal wealth then you'll ever experience champ.
