Former commerce minister Boonsong Teriyaphirom’s lawyer will try to seek bail for his client again.

Boonsong’s lawyer, Mr Narin Somnoek, said Sunday that he would study the Supreme Court’s reasoning for rejecting bail for Boonsong after which he would petition the court for a review of bail request.

The lawyer and Boonsong’s relatives will visit the ex-minister at Klong Prem prison on Monday.

If he wasn't already cursing the Shins he certainly will be now. After a couple of nights in jail he will have realized that this situation is real, and that he is doing a life sentence for following orders. Yingluck's flight does not bode well for Boonsong's bail application, nor does the growing media frenzy and junta denial of complicity. Sadly, for Boonsong, this boondoggle did not end so well.

Still, look on the bright side, with good behavior he should get a 1/3rd shaved off his time, so only 28 years. Doesn't sound so bad.

Boonsong’s lawyer arrives at prison before bail request

By The Nation

BANGKOK: -- The head lawyer of former commerce minister Boonsong Teriyapirom arrived at Klong Prem Central Prison on Monday morning ahead of his bail request.

Narin Somnuek arrived at the prison at about 7.30am.

He brought along medicine as Boonsong is suffering from sinusitis and an allergy.

Narin said he would consult with Boonsong the plan to seek his bail release, pending an appeal against his conviction.

On Friday, Boonsong was sentenced to 42 years in jail for approving four government-to-government rice export deals with China which turned out to be bogus, causing massive financial damage to taxpayers.

After your convicted and sentenced to 42 years and to repay billions, your allowed bail? So you can do a runner?

In Thailand you can get bail after you are sentenced to death for murder.

Ask the 3 policemen in Kalasin who got bail the very next day.

i presume you mean request bail; whomever in the 'court system' that is responsible for accepting/rejecting such applications/requests must be very busy; reapplication after reapplication...and piles up revenue for the applicant's lawyers

No, I was talking about policemen sentenced to death been freed on bail.

Five policemen convicted of murdering a 17-year-old man from Kalasin were released on bail Tuesday by the Criminal Court. :surprised:

A key witness, the teenage victim's aunt, said she would seek to extend her enrolment in a witness protection programme now that the convicted killers have been set free. :doah:

Pikul Prohmchan, one of three key witnesses in the murder case, said she would petition the Department of the Special Investigation (DSI) because the release of the five convicts - three of whom were sentenced to death - could put her life in jeopardy. "I'm afraid that we might be killed before the convicts receive the capital punishment," she said.

You can bail out of jail in thailland after a murder conviction, to wait on appeal. sometimes for decades.

I'll save him the trouble; he's got 42 years in Klong Prem, he's not going to stick around if he's on bail!

But there again, another 30 million bail money may rock the boat.

Did their appeal ever get heard? I know the poor prosecution witnesses were booted out of the protection program the day the verdict was read.

Has a convicted falang ever been granted bail?

Yes, it's extremely common.

A friend of mine, wrongly convicted on bogus charges brought against him out of spite and malice, sentenced to one year and was released on appeal and bail the same day, he's been waiting on appeal/bail after his conviction and sentencing for almost 2 years now.

Too true. I also wonder if he might think, now he has so many years in which to ponder his predicament, whether he has any particularly interesting facts, knowledge or information of significant value that someone who runs this country could use, maybe in order to reduce his sentence..........?
