Three arrested for alleged drug trade in Songkhla

By The Nation

SONGKHLA: -- A teenage couple and a man have been arrested in Songkhla province’s Hat Yai district for allegedly selling drugs in this southern border town.

Acting on a tip-off, police arrested a 19-year-old and his 15-year-old wife at a hotel room on Chote Wiriyakul 5 Road in Hat Yai on Tuesday evening.

Police allegedly found 407 grams of crystal meth or “ice” in the room.

The two allegedly confessed that they were paid Bt1,500 by Kittipong Somesoda, 25, to rent the room and use it to deliver the drug to clients.

Police said they got the teen to call Kittipong to the hold and arrested him.

Kittipong told police he bought the drug from a man, known only as Tum, via Facebook and he had hired the teenaged couple to distribute the drug from the hotel.

Lawfully married or in a de-facto relationship?

According to http://www.thaiembassy.com/marriage/marriage.php, to get married legally in Thailand,

'.......Either of them should not be less than 17 years of age or should be in marriageable age in accordance to the law enforced from your home country. The Court may, in case of having appropriate reason, allow them to marry before attaining such age.......'

EDIT:  On reflection, I suppose either (one or the other) was not less than 17 years of age in this case.   Am I reading that right?
