  1. I fully agree. High quality over the ear headphones are clearer than a soundbar, which would be too loud for my wife. Good ones will have sound cancelling, so my wife can do whatever she wishes, and I don't hear her. NOTE: My Samsung smart Tv will only connect via Bluetooth to AKG or JBL headphones. Both brands owned by Samsung. Not sure if all Samsung TVs have that "feature"!! 😁 But even with headphones some dialogue is difficut to understand if they speak softly, too rapidly or there is background noise. Good luck!
  2. Sorry for late reply; got behind in my email. I'm an American, so can't comment on European issues. My wife is Thai. We shipped 8,000 pounds in a 20 foot container from Baltimore, MD, USA. It included furniture, clothes, dishes/China/silver, books and sentimental items. It was expensive, but we have no regrets. We misjudged which furniture we would need after we bought a house in Bangkok (house was larger than expected), and consequently donated about half of it to relatives, which they appreciated. However, some of the furniture was useful and/or sentimental, so we enjoy having it. We sold our house in America; I'd been a landlord in the past and never want the hassle again. Profit from sale of US house was used to buy a nice upper middle class home in Bangkok for cash. Note that we kept our US bank accounts and credit cards. Good move because our limits are much higher than available with Thai credit cards. Also kept a US AT&T mobile which is a God send due to the need for one time codes via SMS these days. I also kept 2 IRA accounts to fund retirement for my younger wife, We consider our move a success and wouldn't change anything.
  3. That seems strange to me. I've been to K-Bank and SCB many times for various transactions, and I have never seen them check my visa/extension of stay. They have only looked at the main page with my name, and passport info. And they have never take a photocopy of my visa/extension of stay. Never. Scare mongering???
  4. I am an American living in Thailand with my Thai wife and I obtained an IDP for 405 baht on two occasions. No hassle, no problem. Just had to wait in queue for about 45 minutes.
  5. It is misleading to say, "That way you keep the traditional driving feel but without polluting anything!" True, the engine itself doesn't pollute, except possible nitrogen oxides. However, some methods of manufacturing the hydrogen fuel are polluting.
  6. If at all possible, avoid taking Social Security early, if you are in good health. I waited to take it at full retirement age (65 in my case) and now I wished I had waited until age 70. I'm 88 and you don't know how long you will live, but you do know inflation will creep up on you. Fortunately for me, I also have a military retirement, so we are quite comfortable.
  7. I'm an American and I bought our house on the northern edge of Bangkok for my wife who is younger than me. We've lived here rent free for 23 years, and have made upgrades and modifications to suit our preferences. Our house is comfortable, roomy and pleasant. It's been a great investment in a nice gated community with good neighbors. Most problems with neighbors occur in inexpensive properties, just like in any other country.
  8. We have a 2018 Ford Ranger Wildtrak with the Bi-Turbo engine and 10-speed automatic. I have over 140,000 km on it. It looks new and goes like it's new. It's not a sports car, but it's not slow either. Remember that horse power is often lower in diesels, but torque is higher, torque is what you need to get off the line and for passing. Mine has 213 HP, BUT 500 nm of torque. We have been very happy with our Ranger. When it's time to replace it, we'll buy either a new Ranger or a new Everest. Good luck with you decision.
  9. Duh... why not just take it to a computer shop who know what they are doing. That way you don't screw it up yourself. Should be very cheap, maybe the cost of a couple of beers.
  10. Yes, same scam when I imported an Amazon Fire Stick 4K. Same routine. Get an import license. It took my wife (who is a Ph.D.) a full day and over 10,000 baht of various "fees" to get it. Apparently, UPS has buddies at Thai Customs. Needless to say, she was furious, but persisted because she knew I needed a new Fire Stick for my TV streaming. But if anything is sent by UPS in the future, we'll just send it back!!
  11. I have problems not moving for an MRI, so I take two Tylenol 8 hr. time release tablets about 30 minutes prior. That helps a lot. Good luck.
  12. I usually get my letter, statement and update at the K-Bank in the basement of CW Immigration. They are quick and expert at doing it. 👍
  13. It was going socialist under Biden & Harris. But new management is changing all that. Thankfully!
  14. Wake up! Poverty is not romantic. Get a job. I mean a real job. Earn some real money. Stop whining! Good luck!!
  15. I'm American and have received an international driver's license in Bangkok for 505 baht without any hassles except waiting time. Obtained it when driving from Bangkok to Singapore through Malaysia, but never actually needed to use it.
