Steve is one of the owners there at Liberty. Unfortunately Farang can own & not preform the work...........so your going to be on your own really finding a farang willing to do illegal work for you(unless you have a friend that can do it for you. They put togather a machine for a friend of mine & I was not to impressed . they forgot to test the CD burner(which is dead) Never worked & the bios was screwed up as well. A Thai man was the one that did the work.

Good luck, I think you would be just as well off going to com-city as the same Thai guys will be preforming the work.

Pattaya 2 u is real good on troubleshooting dept. If you do go there ask for KAI he is the senior tech & is shit hot! He is also a member on the site under pattaya2u.

Pattaya2u always gets my computer problems, if they can't fix it for B200 plus parts, N/C. Great guys & girls, even give you a free soft drink while you wait and they diagnose the problem.

I would give liberty a miss as a mates laptop got a lot of liberty after 3 months of not being repaired........ if got nicked from the place and he was given a very nasty brush off by the pillow bitting farang there.

Depends who you get at Liberty. Toi, a lady, is very good but the guys are pretty hopeless. I got double charged because one of them couldn't do the work and had to come back. I paid but with the thought 'this is the last time'. I hope Steve reads this forum

had the same problem at Liberty - the first fix on the A/C adapter did not last and i had to come back again after a week - the second time they told me it was unfixable and then had the gall to ask me to pay another 700 baht - i declined and was pissed they had the nerve to even ask for additional money - never again

I can't recommend any farang techies, nor am I aware of any Thais with the qualifications as stipulated by the OP. AS others have said, farangs would be working illegally, and are you seriously suggesting that you ask a Thai to produce his certificates before trusting him with you computer? Come on, this is Thailand, not High Street Kensington. And even there you would probably get a punch on the nose. :o

I think in this city you will look long and hard to find such people.

What I can recommend is a very good Thai computer technician, who used to run a computer repair shop on Pattaya Klang near to Carrefour (some of you may remember it). The place was called DCO Computers. The landlord put rent up form 30K to 50K and he had to get out.

His name is Khun Narong, and he speaks very good English. He has built one desk top computer for me, and has carried out numerous repairs and modifications on my computer equipment over the past 2 - 3 years. I have several farang friends who are also use him and are very satisfied with the service. He can often sort out small problems on the spot, and his charges are very reasonable.

He is now located on 302/18 Soi Chaiyapruek 2, and has a new place called DCO Pattaya. It is easy to find. Go South down Sukhumvit, and when you reach the Jomtien area, make a left onto Soi Chaiyapruek 2. The shop is only about 50 metres down on the left, before the railway lines, and before the open market. His phone number is 086 835 9925.

Khun Narong is a paraplegic and was raised in a Catholic orphanage - hence the good English. He is an incredible guy who has not allowed his handicap to interfere with his life. He is very dynamic, gets in and out of his wheel chair like an athlete (when I went there, he jumped into the back of my Fortuner to inspect my Woofer), he drives a modified car, and even makes home visits. I once asked him to help out at the Children's Mercy Mission, and he was down there before 9 a.m. for several mornings, fixing their computers and and installing a network. He wouldn't accept any payment for his work.

So guys, do yourself a favour and check out Khun Narong. He's one of the good ones.

Difficult issue.

HSSO: I would give liberty a miss as a mates laptop got a lot of liberty after 3 months of not being repaired........ if got nicked from the place and he was given a very nasty brush off by the pillow bitting farang there.

Not repaired is a 100% foul.

But if you may consider:

Service Thailand : (THESE TIMES APPLY WHEN Y O U [in person] DROP THE GEAR AT THE SERVICE POINT)

Acer (Si ratcha) 90 % within 7 Days (Decent folks - want a keyboard in japanese - they did it also within 7 days) Score 9/10 Points

Compaq (BKK) APPROX 30 DAYS (LIKELY MORE) (I had to send in the entire notebook, to have the battery (20 min lifetime after 2 month) replaced Score 2/10

IBM/Lenovo (BKK) 48 h ( HDD e.g. you get a new one with DHL within 24h and ship you old one back) 10/10 Points

SONY They don't sell you even a cd drive for you vaio..... go there pay, xxxx THB for the drive and over 1xxx thb for changing 1 ! yes, one screw. Score -5/10

So you see.... difficult thing here................ all values above are on notebooks/laptops

One funny one: why don't you try to repair a FUJITSU-SIEMENS here?

let's get back to pattay2you...........

200THB for ANY fix sound like a dam_n good deal to me!

well let's see:

one [email protected] 18000 THB

five staff 25000 THB

little utils 5000 THB

no tax 0 THB

--------------------------------------

91000 THB

200 THB a Fix 455 Jobs a Month

Cool eh?

455 x lets say 30 min = 227 hours

T.COM Opening time = 315 hours

so they would make 8800 thb if they work 100% every day...................

:o:D :D

my advice go there..... let them figure out you problem, but DON'T buy any spare parts with them. :D

Last July I had no ideas about computers but I wanted one as I had recently retired out here to Pattaya, and wanted email access etc for my family back in England.

Anyway, I was given the name of an English speaking guy from either Aus or NZ, can never remember which, who has been living out here for some 20 years. I met up with him, told him what I wanted, and to cut a long story short he got me set up for a very reasonable fee. He is an absolute genius, and will come out to where you live.

If you are interested in contacting this guy, let me know and I will give you his contact details.

I have to say that I visited Liberty just before meeting this guy, and you can tell who I went with, and no regrets.

Thanks for the info Mobi.

No need of him at present but Khun Narong is my computer go to guy in Pattaya.

Noticed he had moved last time I was up that way but the woman in the restaurant next door didn't know where he had gone.

100% recommendation from Tarqin for what its worth.

Unit has been empty for about a year so ya boo sucks to the landlord.

Yes, unfortunately one must be careful about parts at Pattaya2you. They tried to overcharge me by B200 for a stick of RAM the other day. I told the guy the fair market price from the other shops in the area but just got a shake of his head. So I bought that and B6000 of other upgrade parts from Hardware House and Jib.

Stupid.

As for Richard Bunch, I think he sold up and left years ago.

Liberty Computers seemed to be solely interested in selling systems and support contracts when I saw them last year. I have met Richard previously I believe he is still involved in IT and had good awareness when I spoke with him. There is a guy that runs (ran?) and advert in the back of the Pattaya Mail offering home PC support by either Thai or farang (himself?). No idea of the quaility of the work.

You mention this is your music PC. I assume the problem is sound card or storage related?

(Buggered after an OS update? - try reapply sound card drivers.)

I would imagine that all PC fixers here will offer zero liability for lost of data so wise to back up first.

Also there has been many comments on these boards before about computers going in for repair then coming out with memory (etc.) missing.

If there is ANY personal information on the hard disk - I would removed it less it be "lost".

They can migrate all your music pictures & other files to another computers hard drive & reinstall windows _reformat if needed.

If you have not Partitioned your drive to a C drive D drive system well worth it .

I have not had to reinstall My 65 gigs of music & 40 gigs of photos for 4+ years.

They can also install Norton ghost 9 for free at Pattaya2u upon request. The Joy of Norton Ghost 9 is that after you get your music backed up & your computer reformatted( they can also migrate all your docs & settings to another computer(so you don't have to) If you ever have a catastrophic or even a minor problem you can reinstall all your computer to the day it was perfect, NOT A REVERT , but a total backup -as Norton Ghost backs up everything to when the disc is made. It is now used religiously among most techies (or similar programs) It may cost 160 baht to buy a 2 sided disc & you need an up to date DVD burner & Nero 7. Along with many many other programs for free, best to know what programs you want before you go in as Kae has well over 600 current programs. I have used the man with the handicapped leg & he is very good also- but no freebies or a free coke or 2 while you wait. Parts for anything it is best to shop around. Although I did pay 200 baht for 2 more gigs of memory. Pattaya2u put in my new hard drive overclocked my computer gave me autocad-along with 4 current photoshops a new microphone & 4 race games as well. So it was a fair exchange in a robbery. The 4 computers that I work on (Friends) that always had problems are now on Ghost. I have not needed to see any of their computers for almost 2 years! Happy Happy Joy Joy!!!!!! :o

to sum up what is wrong with the comp - no graphics output - I have a working knowledge of PCs and have checked my screens with my other PC and they are fine...I came back from a 6 week trip to Uk turned on the PC and it looks like it fires up fine all peripherals seem to work - but no graphics output!! I cant change the graphics card coz I only have AGP and this one is PCI.Have reseated the card with no joy - so that just about sums it up...and yes I was wearing an ESD discharge wristband....!!

Hi - For those that think that Richard has left :o

Ha! Haven't heard a thing about him in years! Used to have a high profile, writing in the Pattaya Mail, shop on S. Pattaya Rd. Well, good to know he's still around; really knew his stuff, no doubt about that. Seems have expanded his business focus in this newer company.

Richard Brunch is certainly still in Pattaya and building websites. Not sure about computer repairs? He is located in the Pattaya Today building on Suhkumvit Road and has a busines called IT Solutions.

I can also recommend the disabled guy from DCO, he has built several pc's for my company to my spec.

How about starting your own thread....just joking mate I would look on the internet for a website development company you might find someone who actually knows what they are doing!! On the subject of my PC I browsed the internet for a techie forum and fixed it myself ,the guy from tukom's pattaya 2 you did call at my house but after two hours of struggling to fix my other cheaper PC he conceded defeat an withdrew ( no charge by the way!!).I was mightily concerned when he didnt seem to know what my ESD wirst strap was for..as all PC people know ESD can wreck a comp..not good..My RAM was corrupted in my music comp so Ive saved myself some baht there...any PC techie with any nouse should have picked that up straight away!!after being in Thailand for six months I dont really trust that many Thais..so I was pleased that I managed to fix it myself and it didnt have to 'go in'- thanks to everyone who PMed me Ive kept your numbers and if Ive got any more probs that I cant fix Ill be in contact.Im surprised that farangs cannot work as IT blokes in Thailand - no specialists for large companies setting up networks etc...anyway my comps fixed I can get back to producing some music now - leave the crazy world to itself... :o

LIBERTY is the biggest disaster I came accross in my computer-life.... very bad experience with them. they employ some staff who have actually no clue what they are actually doing. others had bad experience with them as well, and the internet is full of such reports. I dont think any computer-savvy expert would trust them and hand over his laptop/PC.

Pattaya2u got some very bad reports as well. yeah, they give u a soft drink and have some very smart english speaking touts.... thats's how they seduce Farang.....

just search the net and u will learn that many people mad bad experiences with them....
