Jimmy, I had the delivery takeout one variety and it was not good. Sometimes the experience in shop is much different. Might be worth a try for those in the area to see for yourself. I agree, tastes with pizzas vary. However, I do think most people would enjoy the pizza at that Trattoria place.

my friend asked about delivery and the owner said he could but the pizza doesnt travel well try it there and try the #12

So Tropo if you can point us in the direction of a decent fish and chips or burger I'm sure there would be many grateful farangs.

I'm sorry, but I hardly ever eat fish n' chips and burgers but there are many places that have been discussed on this site to try.

I have a friend that is addicted to McDonalds burgers, so each person has their own idea of what a good burger should be.

Perhaps it would be a good idea to start a burger thread.

If he eats mcdonalds burgers he knows nothing on the subject ! :o

McDonald's burgers are better than 99.9% of the beefburgers available in Thailand, so he knows more than you do.

Went to Cherry's on 3rd road for the first time tonight, and would agree with all the previous posters. Had a fantastic meal and would recommend it to anyone. We got there early at about 6-30 and got a table no problem, but by 7-30 it was packed and they were turning people away.

Only downside was the menu. It is so well written, and everything sounds so delicious that it took me about 1/2 an hour to narrow it down to 4 choices, and then made the Mrs decide.

This is proper restaurant food for the same price as fish and chips in many a farang eatery.

Wherabouts on 3rd road is it. Also, what sort of food do they serve - is it European or Thai, or both?

Thanks

Praise where it's due last few days i have eaten at Patricks Belgian restaurant in the small arcade next to Kiss food on second road, nice fella own's it funnily enuff his name's Patrick and he's suprise suprise from Belgium .I've been here a fair few years and really wished i'd found this place sooner, couldnt fault the choice on the menu and all the dishes we had were spot on in fact the best lamb chops ive ever demolished and for the quality you get not badly priced at around 10 quid a head for 3 courses and very nice red wine WELL WORTH A VISIT. Might have to book it was a full house both times i went,

Nice report, but how much is 10 quid in the local currency? Or has Thailand suddenly become another British colony?

Its almost opposite Exyte disco. Quite a small looking place with a yellow sign outside. They do both Euro and Thai food, the Mrs said the Thai food was good as well.

I will be going back there several times over the next few weeks as I want to try everything on the menu.

10 quid is about 640 baht

I am afraid I am going to have to say that I think the pizza at the Seafood Emporium is not good pizza and bears no resemblance to good pizza you could get in the states. Specifically, I found the crust tasteless cardboard variety and the so called gourmet toppings presented as tiny specks. Other than that, the flavor was pretty good but I can't forgive a crappy crust. For Pattaya, in my view, it is average pizza (meaning: bad and not worth the price). Favorite local pizzas so far: Pizza Big in Naklua and that Trattoria place on Beach road, Pattaya. Pan Pan in the shop pretty good (but the calzone is bad).

Sorry Jingthing but as any fule kno the best pizza in Pattaya comes from the Barloon Pizza stall opposite The Ritz in Soi Yamato. And while we're at it the Ritz does excellent breakfasts, sandwiches, and Thai food.

seafood emporium located on the corner near immigration. i am not a seafood eater but my friends are. they all loved it, large portions, good service and good prices. i got the pizza and it was the best i have had in thailand and rivals pizza in the states. English owner I believe. i got the last one on the list #12 I think and it had everything. 6 of us went and 5 got seafood and i got pizza. after tasting my pizza all 5 went back next night for the pizza. i didn't go only because of my waistline

and no, i dont have anything to do with it other than hoping they stay in business, I like pizza

I like pizza too and would like to try this place. Can you be a bit more specific with the directions? Thanks.

Yes...i'm probaly having a bad soup week....but whereas there is good food in Pattaya...I have little confidence in most (but not all) of the eateries that supply western food, and although we all like a dose of "comfort food" from time to time, in general I'd rather cook my own.

PS - I did have real mashed potato at Seaview the other day!....real potato with no fingernails or hair!

If there is one thing that Pattaya doesn't lack it is quality restaurants.. there's farsands of em!

It looks like the 'Worst Eateries' thread will be a mish mash of bad AND good which for an old bugger like me will be too confusing, so...

Here's (probably another) 'Best Eateries' thread and I will nominate my 3 picks.

Vientiane at it's current location on Pattaya Tai road near Big C. Actually I 'discovered' it while at the previous location at the end of Walking Street before the exit to Bali Hai and I think the food and service was a tad better at the old place; maybe because it was more 'intimate' than the new 'barn' they occupy.

Somsak's on Soi 1. Just never, ever had a bad meal here or at any of his 3 previous locations over the past +20 years.

The small garden restaurant at the 'Belgian Embassy' on Soi 3 has a truly excellent menu, great desserts and Boncafe coffee. The distaff interest eating somtam at the entrance are quite entertaining and sometimes easy on the eye (or so I have been told).

Hard rock hotel best nachos in pattaya for sure, my 5 year old loves looking at the staff, some are a bit eccentric but funny, i hope they have stopped bringing out the ashtrays at 10pm ,.we had to leave then :o

if you are traveling from pattaya to jomtien turn left after the honuman [7-11], the large gold money statue before you get to the beach, and follow that street for a little ways just past soi 5 and it will be on your right. lite up well and easy to see.

if you dont know where the honuman is but know where immigration go up soi 5 from beach road till the end [just past imigration] and make a right [only have two choices right or left] and it is there on your right. it is directly across from the outdoor market and view talay.

great pizza but the place doesn't have a lot of ambiance, too bright. i had the last one on the menu with everything

Has anyone tried that new Japanese restaurant on the left side (beach side) of 2nd Road? Sorry, but I can't remember the name.

They have a sushi train.

Whereabouts on 2nd road exacty Tropo? May have to send the wife out on recce while I am in absentia.

If you mean the sushi bar close to the Slim club (I think it is called Samurai), I thought it was awful when I visited it before X'mas.

The sushi was warm (even when we ordered it as opposed to taking it from the bar) and not particularly fresh. Also the rice wasn't anywhere near as light as sushi rice should be. Personally, the best sushi I have found in town is at Mantra, although it still leaves something to be desired.

I'll add a few mentions that I like...

Don't think it has been mentioned yet...Chez George on 3rd Road for good quality and affordable French food. Nice ambience and service. Been there for years and many French regulars so must be pretty authentic. 3 or 4 course sets are B 350-B 450. A la carte entres B 250 - B 400. Even served us wine last nite (election day) in a wine glass :D

I would also second Beefeaters in the Kiss food mall opposite Mikes on 2nd road. However, my recco would be mainly for the Tex/Mex buffet on weekends. One of the best B 200 buffets deals in town IMHO.

For Western type sandwiches, sorry, but I have to go with Au Bon Pain and Delifrance on this one. Both have large selection of fresh breads and fillings to satisfy just about any craving. Prices are reasonable too at B 80 - B 125 for most. I also think Au Pon Pain has the best flavored drip coffee around and it's not too expensive at B 45 or B 55 (very large mug). Their espresso drinks are good also but like most in town, way overpriced.

For Japanese, the lunch sets at Fuji are a bargain. Full meal for B 110-150. The ala carte selections are good too. I won't comment on the sushi/sashimi since I don't eat them (but my Japanese friends say it's so-so at best). The noodle soups and "don" or over-rice dishes are very good also.

For Thai, I live on the dark side of Sukkie and have several very good and cheap places. Happy Holiday on Nernplubwan just past the Esso gas station on the left just opened and is very good. One of the best pad sieuews (fried rice noodles) around. Lots of meat and veggies plus noodles for only B 40. I almost fell over the first time I got the bill. I know living on the dark side is cheap but B 40 was ridiculous...almost the price of street food! Also on Nernplubwan, right next to the Esso is La Var Cafe. Great espresso drinks (hot or cold) and Italian sodas. Nice setting and free internet (notebook or desktop). B 25-35 for all drinks...another great reason to live on the dark side.

Ruam Tip Thai is about 4 kilos down Neruplubwan...good selection of Thai and farang dishes and again very good value.

I would also agree that O'liver in Jomtien is very good. Also, a resto called Zaa's is great also. Several others there, which the names escape me now, are good too. Not the English pub places but the little gay places. Also, Dick's Cafe in the complex has very good (if rather pricey Thai food).

Funny enough, I like the Bacon pizza at the German Brew Haus on Beach road next to Pizza Hut at the foot of soi Yamoto.

As mentioned, Mata Hari and Brunos are great when you want a nice meal in a nice setting. Both have Swiss/German continental menus.

Have had some good meals at Max's Italian on soi Post Office (right next to the Pump Station...good for a before or after meal delight). A little pricey and service can be spotty but some nice dishes and free salad bar.

I think some of the best desserts can be found at New Orleans Cafe. Great American style cherry and blueberry cheesecake. Also, their popcorn shrimp and ribs are great.

Well, all this talk about food is making me hungry...where to eat tonite :o

Who knows where the best waffles are in Pattaya?

When you find out...let me know too :o

I am not a big breakfast guy...but I actually like the B 65 breakie at Crazy Dave's. Cheap and filling and friendly waitress that have worked there for years.

Forgot to mention earlier...Luxor (no not Egyptian but Euro-Continental) in soi Day-Nite near Tuk Com is very good and great service. I especially like the Cepe mushroom raviolis and the fried pork steak Lugano (basically wiener schnitzel with lost more breading and spices).

There's a new noodle restaurant on Beach Road just south of Royal Garden Plaza.

It has an extensive menu with photos of each dish, and the actual meals look exactly the same as in the photos.

Most dishes are around the 90 - 120 baht price range. I've been there twice and enjoyed the food both times.

It's open until 1 am.

post-34982-1203275098_thumb.jpgpost-34982-1203275120_thumb.jpg

Does it get customers (apart from yourself)? Looks pretty quiet and I tend to avoid food places that are quiet as I like to know that the food hasn't been hanging around for a day or two! :o

It's actually a very busy and popular restaurant and in a superb location if you like to 'people-watch'. That photo was taken near closing time around 1 am.

I never mentioned he's a burger expert, only that he's addicted to McDonalds...but I did state clearly that everyone has their own idea of what a good burger should be, so who's to say your idea (or anyone else's) is THE final word on burgers?

Some people don't like gourmet burgers that fall apart. Other people don't like burgers too thick to get their mouths around.

There must be something compelling about McDonald's burgers because a McDonald's franchise is usually a good investment.

No such thing as a good pizza place, because one night it will be good, the next night will not be the same. I have had this experience many times with the pizza delivery place on 3rd Road. Sometimes great, other nights, well simply not to good. :o
