Tourist Police round-up Ladyboys on Pattaya Beach in response to Tourist complaints.

03_08_4_2.jpg

Responding to complaints from Tourists concerning the increasing levels of beach related crimes involving Ladyboy’s, Police Captain Chirawat, a sub-inspector at Pattaya’s Tourist Police Station and a group of Tourist Police Volunteers conducted an operation on Pattaya Beach on Wednesday Night and rounded up 25 Ladyboys who were known to the Tourist Police as previous offenders.

The complaints from foreigners range from abusive language to attempted theft. The group of transsexuals was later transported to Pattaya Police Station where they paid small fines :o and profiles of each Ladyboy were recorded for use at a later date. It is hoped that these rounding-up operations will continue and will eventually deter the Ladyboy’s from frequenting the beach area at night.

How on earth they expect to get rid of these pests by fining them a minimal amount and then letting them go back in droves to pester tourists is beyond me. They should enforce a ban for a period of say 3 months and then fine them heavily if they lurk there again.

The situation along Beach Rd is getting worse by the month and something more positive needs to be done to deter these pests and the other prostitutes who are turning Beach Road into another red light area. During the day also the numbers of these people have increased quite considerably.

During the hours of darkness even early evening the promenade is awash with prostitues of various genders and they are even now plying their trade on the other side of Beach Road as well. This must be giving tourists a bad image of Pattaya......who wants to go for a quiet stroll down there with these people lurking under what seems to be every tree?

Stricter stronger enforcement needs to be applied now or this lovely area will become a no go zone for normal people.

ok ... now here's a thought .....

what law were they breaking and why should their liberties be curtailed?

yes there are the agressive ones ... but not normally agressive until they see BritMav go past and not reply to the "You hansum man!"

a round-up is the poorest form of law-enforcement ... and a ban? Well they could pass a law that someone NOT be allowed back into an area if CONVICTED of a real crime!

I have to agree with the law on this one.

I live in Jomtien near Pattaya and like to go

to a reasonably priced bar on soi 8,then like to

walk up Beach Rd beach side, and yes, enjoy

the ladies but the LB's Jeezis Edith!! They have

many times grabbed my arm and locked on,

and then as I'm pulling away, telling them

sternly, but with smile NO..they try to

go for wallet in back pocket.NICE TRY <deleted>!

I keep in front always! but it is getting out of

control.Especially in a few darker strips where lights

are more minimal. They need to go to the island of

misfit toys I think.Where the guys who prefer them

can go and enjoy to their hearts content!

Some of them I'm told,have serious problems/issues

with the yaba daba doo too.

Sorry,just my opinion. :o

Prevention & Suppression of Prostitution Act 1996.

Section 5.

Any person who, for the purpose of prostitution, solicits, induces, introduces herself or himself to, follows or importunes a person in a street, public place or any other place, which is committed openly and shamelessly, or causes nuisance to the public shall be liable to a fine not exceeding one thousand baht.

That should cover it!

Pattaya is a strange place. Police seem to be able and willing to trample on individual rights. First girls got stopped from walking oer the boulevard, than Katoeys were rounded up from the beach. the Man in Brown always afraid to make their shiny shoes dirty simply used guns to force them out of the water. Although the Katoeys are indeed a headache so are other people foreigners and Thai entertainers alike. My problem with the actions of this policeforce is that they are random, without merit and indiscriminate. they simply target a group of people. Today katoeys, tomorrow young girls, the day after old people and later who knows. I read the sweet names some readers give these people. They are still human beings! And they probably harassing all the men that are there anyhow for the wrong reasons. Keep that in mind by calling them pets or worse!

ummmm it WOULD if all 25 were doing that ... AT THAT TIME .... rather doubt they were :o

stepping up real patrols would help ... but rounding up people for just being some place is a bi different.

I feel sorry for the people that find out the hard way.

RELOCATE THEM to an approate area. But they would not go as they are just after the Dunk that can't tell the differance at the time. Normally a tourist.

The reason why they picked up these people is because they had a past track record of petty crime and public annoyance and had been openly soliciting for the purpose of prostitution in the area and were loitering there again.

Pattaya Beach Road is a public place and a place where people with families should be able to walk along and enjoy...even in the early hours of darkness and the sooner they stop these prostitutes from soliciting openly to members of the public then this area can once again be used by families to enjoy...and not as an open area for the ladyboys and such like in large numbers to ply their trade.

I'm sure giving the police money (oops! small fines I mean) will lessen their need for or deter them from stealing. Another opportunity for the boys in brown to boost their salaries.

Cynicism is an unpleasant way of saying the truth.

I consider the ladyboys a minor problem in Pattaya. They can be avoided. However the daily brutal assaults by youth gangs happen anyplace and anytime. I have personally witnessed two brutal robberies of elderly tourists the last few weeks. The perpotrators are always in a group and have no respect for human life....It's over in seconds...not enough time to interrupt the act or even call the police...and not a week passes without somebody you know being mugged and assaultet. No wonder, with probably more then 50% of the Pattaya youth and not so "youth" on Yaba....low season....not enough cash from the Falangs and....and...and...

And there are still people telling me how dangerous Rio or Fortalezza is....I have spent years in Brazil and rarely witnessed such assaults...What else can we expect in a town full of prostitution and low lifes on both sides....? But Pattaya will survive easily with a staedy flow of frustrated elederly men coming to town to chase the illusion of "love"...

Ok, maybe, but let's be realistic. The police in Pattaya don't care about the prostitution problem in general, they care about when it becomes a "nuisance" for the tourists, who then don't come back and spend their money. There are plenty of places in Pattaya where the Prevention and Suppresion of Prostitution Act could be applied, but this issue is not about prostitution. It is about dealing with a threat to local business.

while not an Island, I though Pattya had already been set aside for that purpose?

Think Samui would be a suitable place for them. :o

SamuiJens - Maybe you should start a topic on Samui??? :o

On Samui you're not faced with THE CIRCUS, but you can go to places that have bargirls, but they DON'T bother YOU, like in Pattaya, unless you want them to. And ladyboys are no problem here, yet.

Samui has its fair share of problems too. These touristy places attract all the worst ppl (including farangs). If you want to survive long term in Thailand don't live in a tourist area. I mean its there when you need some entertainment, so visit when you feel the need. I went to Pattaya about a month back; was a good hoot for a long weekend, but I would not want to live there :o Walking down beach road in the evening was like a continuous chain of, erm, ppl available for your entertainment :D Not exactly a family holiday resort?

Im aware of this situation on beach rd at night myself. many times i have walked between walking st and soi 7/8 myself at night. I have yet to encounter a problem as i ignore the heccles of the local street dwellers.

I think half the problem is the drunk farrang, whom encourage these people by stoping when they hear the 'ay hansum man' jeer.

I also believe there are other solutions that may help the situation. Instead of having ALL the tourist police sit aimlesly at the begining of walking street all night, why not have some patrol beach road and tell these people to move on. This might discourage any vagrents from frequenting this area. Also better lighting may help.

on the other hand.... what do you expect in pattaya??? wholesum family fun? :o
