Thailand and Germany Launch Joint Project to Support Carbon Neutrality
retarius replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I wonder ion the Germans will do such a wonderful job here as they have done in Germany. The rule in 'copying best practice' is given in the words.....and means if you are thinking of copying something from abroad, copy something successful, not something that's a total disaster. -

Thaksin’s stay at police hospital extended by Corrections Department
retarius replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
You are not entitled to know the status of his medical condition, neither here nor of a convict in the UK nor in the EU or the US. Being a prisoner does not totally deprive you of you privacy rights. Medical information is restricted in statements to certain words like stable, critical and so on that have clear defined legal and medical meanings. I do agree that more transparency would be ideal and would build confidence, but this is Thailand, most of us know with a a high degree of certainty what is going on. But this is real world, not fantasy land. Here in Thailand and this is what the rich and powerful can do, and surprise, surprise they can do it in most places around the world (think Jefferey Archer in the UK, allowed out of jail every day in his Jag to attend work, parties and drive back to prison drunk, how many convicts enjoy that privilege in equal justice Britain? Think Jeffrey Epstein in his first pedophile and trafficking stint in jail....allowed out every day to work, what can't any old convict carry one working to earn his corn?). The offensive thing about Thailand's justice is that they laugh in your face while pretending to administer justice. It's flagrant and all part of what the powerful think of the masses here in Thailand. At least in the developed world they usually (after the slap on the wrist sentence is given) have the decency or shame to try to hide the privileges given to the rich and powerful. -
OPINION: “I’m a pooyai!” – The dilemma of “respect” in Thai culture
retarius replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I find it sickening, personally. Respect is for what good a person has done in his life, not for who his parents were, how much money he/she has or how much talent they were given at birth. Whenever I go to my bank, the amper or the doctors, my wife and I are ushered in immediately....no waiting in line. I find it embarrassing and imagine all the resentment built up against me, a stinky farang, being given special service ahead of them. I worry one day one of them will snap and murder me. -
Yeah I read that as well. Miami is a pooh hole but the beach and night life are fantastic. My son lives there (on South beach) so I have been literally tens of times. But crimes and taxi scams beat Phuket and Pattaya a hundred fold. Best to be well-armed, and have concealed carry permit, in my opinion, if you live there. Or if you vacation there, go with a firmed who has a permit.Big money can insulate you. The rest of the US is also great top vacation in (EAST COAST), I don't like the west or the south, but up north in New England is paradise in the summer.

Thaksin’s stay at police hospital extended by Corrections Department
retarius replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
It is the patients right, not the judiciary or the public to determine whether he/she want their medical details released to the public. This doesn't change whether you are a public person, a celebrity or a Thaksin. If Thaksin says 'yes, Bamnutsak really is so important and knowledgeable that he needs to know my medical details,' then I'm sure they will be released to you. -

Thaksin’s stay at police hospital extended by Corrections Department

Isn't it nice to hear the howls of anguish when Thaksin takes the piss? I love it. Especially when preferential justice is available to the vast majority of the rich. I didn't note much out cry when the leopard murderer was let out early. -
Thailand-Russia relations remain strong, but at what cost?
retarius replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Just steer clear of Zelensky, a con man if ever I saw one and I saw a lot when I was inside. He'll try to chat you up for arms and money, then he sells the arms to Hamas and pockets the money for villas around the world (a new charity he's setting up). Thailand cannot afford to be friendly with this chap even for the magic of a photo-op. Incidentally looks like the Yanks hare dumping him. -
Funny thing, now I live here, I hate tourists clogging the place up complaining that its too hot, or that the beach isn't clean enough or that the on beach masseuse charged her extra because she was so fat. I liked tourism better during the lockdown when hotels were so damned cheap, when beautiful young ladies were escorting me upstairs like I was a porn king, and they had forgotten to double the prices of beer.

We have acres of tiled floors, but the answer is to have two maids to do the work, that way you get two extra hours to sit on your arse, instead of swabbing floors. The floors are, in my opinion, washed way too much, ie every day. British people though are filthy, and I didn't even notice it when I lived there. All those horrible old dirty carpets collecting god knows what vile bacteria, dog hair, dog ear wax, anal wipings and Christ know's what? I wouldn't walk on a carpet in a British home now in bare feet. I'd want a pair of stout boots or I'd have cooties on my beautiful feet in no time. Same in America. Yuck. I think sweeping tiled floors once a day and swabbing once or twice a week. Gardens are much the same as floors, leave it to the professionals I say. Get gardeners in. What is the point in retiring in Thailand and doing housework and gardening yourself when labour is so cheap?

Big Bike brand with good service in Thailand?
retarius replied to OneMoreFarang's topic in Motorcycles in Thailand
I don't know why anyone would buy anything other than a Honda.....absolute quality product, service and plenty of dealerships. Other Japanese brands great too....European? Nah.....Ducati, the Ferrari of bikes, always in the shop being worked on, no thanks. -
Dreams what type do you have? any recurring ones?
retarius replied to brianthainess's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
A few recurring....the most frequent is me trying to get to an airport to catch a flight, and I'm in a hotel room trying to pack and I have way too much stuff to go in the luggage, and too many suitcases to carry. I assume, it reflects the 'glamourous' (haha) business life I led jetting around the world worrying about getting to my flight on time. I would say I have this basic dream with small variations about once a week. -
What do we think of this from MG ?
retarius replied to Social Media's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Maybe it was the damp climate or the salty roads......but Datsuns rotted before your very eyes and before you could get the Polyfilla in. The Honda Accord and the Datsun Bluebird were the first decent Japanese cars to be marketed in the UK. They set new standards of what a consumer could expect from a car company, that British Leyland simply couldn't meet. The propaganda blamed the unions but, it was poor design and poor engineering that management encouraged that did BL in. -

I had a 1988 Jag XJS 12 cylinder in the US. Fabulous engine, very poor electronics, but the power in that engine had to be driven to be felt.....enormous and the styling was beautiful. A real head turner. -
What do we think of this from MG ?
retarius replied to Social Media's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
I must say new MG styling is about as good as it gets. I won't buy one despite their cheap sticker prices because, like the Japanese cars of old (70s and early 80s), these Chinese cars might not be a quality build. I believe Chinese will improve their quality over the next decade or so to match the quality of Japanese made cars, and a step up from EU or US cars. Maybe I'll try one then, just for fun. But Thailand isn't really a very nice place to drive a roadster is it? Too hot, too stinky, too much traffic. -
What do we think of this from MG ?
retarius replied to Social Media's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
No when MG were British they were a by-word for low quality crap, same as anything from British Leyland. I had a 1968 MGB for about 25 years in the US, 144,000 original miles, great fun to drive in the summer with the top down, but what an awfully hard drive and foul suspension. You were totally exhausted after driving it for 10 minutes around the post-winter, pot-holed US roads but nice on decent roads. -
