SET falls as Thai government’s new policies fail to convince investors
retarius replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Looks like this is near the peak for the Thai market for the foreseeable future. If growth comes in at 2% this year, they might struggle to reach 3% next year. I would love to see the forecast assumptions, because much of the wallet spend will not be incremental ie it will be used to buy things that the people would have bought anyway. -
What is it with Phuket and taxis? I went only once wifey was feeling tired and so got a taxi for the last leg back to the hotel....it was only about 200 yards and the driver asked for 400 baht. We walked instead. You don't tend to get this nonsense in Krabi, at least I haven't had it.

Is it worth getting teeth implants at 81?
retarius replied to giddyup's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I just got told that I don't have enough bone left where a couple of my molars were....how would I like dentures? Honestly, I'm a gagger, anything in the back of my mouth and I retch. I'm not sure I could stand top have dentures in my mouth. Funny my mother and father both died with all their teeth, born in the 20's and 30's. When I was a kid I never saw anyone over the age of 30 without dentures, apart from my parents. Probably an exaggeration but almost all the teachers in high school had dentures. -
I only went there once: great girls, great fishing and great bars.

Did you appreciate living in the 70s, 80s and 90s?
retarius replied to thaibeachlovers's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I can't honestly say I enjoyed my life more when I was young. I was young but had kids, a single income and lots of worries and pressures. I love my life now in my 70s, I loved it a decade ago as well and a decade before that. If a pill existed to take me back to my 20s I'm not sure I would take it to be honest. my life is drawing to a close and I'm happy with that. -
Thailand’s food delivery drivers feel pinch as Grab, Line rack up losses
retarius replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Hahahahaha. World's worst drivers: grab, the pink one, and Line. The way they drive I'm surprised that there are any left alive. -
Ooooh! I love seeing farangs get all steamed up about Thaksin. Think of all the energy you use up to hate. It could power a nuclear sub, for goodness' sake.

No Plans to Shut Down Facebook in Thailand, Says New Digital Minister
retarius replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Don't shut them down, fine them billions of dollars or baht if you are feeling generous. -
Here's a top secret remedy I learned from an old witch, waagaaay back. Get a few large toads and put them in a blender. Paint the resulting goop over the offering surface, and chant the following phrase 3 times: "pinlkjdxulkjbcwiuxhg xw k" and the satin will magically disappear. Note I accept no responsibility for any damage to your property using this method.

I know Japan very well. 6th place doesn't surprise me. It's clean, law-abiding, one of the lowest accident rates on the road, good courteous drivers. great, great, great food. Some strange customs as in all places. I was nearly mown down twice today in the short walk from the supermarket by speeding young men on bicycles. They have bike lanes parked on the roadways but for some reason most cyclists prefer to ride on the sidewalk, that way if they crash, it's not them that gets hurt, it's the old folk walking innocently about. I have no idea why they allow it. Could you imagine NYC with thousands of cyclists careering down the sidewalks there? Insane.

Is Thailand’s education system safe in the hands of Bhumjaithai Party?
retarius replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The "Thai education system" needs a huge over haul, almost anything would be better than it is. It was a bit better but Prayut hammered the final nail into the coffin with his (whatever it was) 12 point student reference program. Thai education needs a serious enema, which involves getting rid of a huge number of totally useless and incompetent teachers. You could replace these teachers with dodos and get better results. How can you have English teachers who can't speak English? -
Thai taxi drivers seek incentives to shift to electric vehicles
retarius replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
How about keeping your taxi business? That's what it will come to and you will end up paying much more per km to use it when they hike up the price of electricity to compensate for the lost revenue from gasoline and diesel sales.
